The league wants the manufactured drama of a Curry vs Curry contest, plus a Dirk fairwell appearance, Ugh.

Throw in the even more manufactured drama of having the captains pick the other all stars publicly (Oh, who will be last? Oh, what does it mean if LeBron picks so and so, is he sending a signal? Zzzzzz....)

Meanwhile, the real drama of announcing the MVP and DPOY during the playoffs (to add tension to playoff clashes) has been replaced by a post-post-season Hollywood-style awards show that nobody cares about unless your guy wins (and even then its kind of bittersweet unless your team rang as well).

Then add that the league is now just a defenseless, 3 point chucking contest, and the big stars conspire to work together to get their rings rather than beat each otehr to get their rings, and this league is heading downhill quickly. Stern was an ass, but you know, he ran a better product.

    Venting Bill....

3pt contest is lame. They should pick the winner from last year, the top 3pt% shooter from last year, and the two leaders before ASB this year to compete. Who cares about old dirk and the non important curry

But let's get Dirk, his 10 MPG & 28% 3 point shooting in there
I'm disappointed that he doesn't have enough pride to say 'no'. I don't care if it's farewell, or what. It's going to be sad to see him go out there and the bed on national TV.

Yeah, this smells like the NBA is cooking up some Curry to add to a jucy sibbling rivalary contest story that would draw ratings on a Saturday night in this All Star Weekend 3 Point Contest. They don't want the Spurs' Bertans anyway, unles there wasn't anyone who wanted to sign up, then they would be desperate enough to invite Bertans. And, it is in Charlotte too, the home of the Curry's (their daddy, Del), so they want to hype this story up! And Dirk, well... it's a nice NBA send off to send one of basketball's best Euro shooters & scorers into the sunset, & eventually into the HOF, which will be another story of itself. SMH! Bottom line is: Davis belongs there, but he's being snubbed for NBA royalty names & a good story to draw ratings... SMH...

    Dirk is in the contest?

Appears to be a popularity contest now: https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/2...lls-challenge/
Dirk is a 25% three-point shooter this year.

It's not because "racism"...It's cause he's not named Curry.
Are you sure about that? It's the reason people act like he isn't a good defender even though he is a fantastic defender.

Yea, that would've been the honorable thing. Especially when it's coming at the expense of some of these other guys. With his slow release, gotta wonder if he'll even make it to each rack the way he's moving these days.

I think Tim actually put the word out his last season to NOT select him as a reserve. It's the right thing to do. Let some youngster have the spot.

i.e. Guy from small market team (and small European country) not worthy of exposure in the WWE NBA. Meanwhile, German dinosaur and fraternal duel take priority.

    Sickening.

Yeah this is bull . With 8 spots you have to find room for someone leading the league on 4.2 attempts per game.

I wish they would just make the invites objective: the top 8 3-point shooters by percentage, with a minimum number of attempts (maybe 100?) get in. Then there's no snub involved, if you don't get it it's your own fault for not hitting more shots.

probably will not make it during allstar break. but it might serve as a motivation for him to prove them wrong. he's an x-factor for the team defensively and offensively.

Not that it’s a big issue, but this type of crap from the league only fuels the fire, real or otherwise that small markets dont matter.

Don’t like guys from small markets bolting? Well stop sending the message that they dont matter such as snubbing guys for marketing reasons.

Whether intentional or not, it sends the message that if you want shine, bigger markets is what matters.

Also, I highly doubt that if you took Dirk out and put in Bertans that there would be any less viewers.

Terrible logic. People want to see great shooters. I remember several years ago when Bonner vs Kyrie was epic in the 3 point contest. Going by your logic we would have been deprived of that matchup since Bonner is a guy that casuals don't know about.

he is already shooting practically 50% of 3pt, I do not believe that it is possible to get better than this
True true. I don't mean Davis though. He already plays like he is wound up most nights. For a white boy Euro he oozes confidence and swagger and I want more of that from the other guys. That feeling of being dissed and disrespected only adds to that bring it on mentality.
