BOTTOM LINE IS WE JUST CANT STOP ANYBODY...TEAM DEFENSE IS BAD, INDIVIDUAL DEFENSE IS BAD, BEING TOO SMALL IN SOME POSITIONS DOESNT HELP...

So you get your pushed in by 40 while you rest DeFrozen and LaSoft, only to lose by 10 instead of 20 the next game?

Another gem straight out of Poop's playbook. Wow

This Spurs defense makes Dantoni's Suns teams look like the '03 Spurs D.

DeRozan's points were like empty calories, yeah he had 35 points, but it looks like he had like 10 turnovers that lead directly to points

Forbes is on a cheap contract. Move him back to the bench next year and problem solved. Not as bad as 27 million a year for the inefficient version of Derrick White in DeRozan. And 12 million a year for a backup PG that only plays well for half the season.
You want Mills, Forbes, and Beli to all play most of their minutes together next season? Yeesh.

I expect White to move to the bench and take a larger role as the 6th man while Murray starts at PG and Forbes continues to start at SG.

His Suns teams were actually near league average or better.

    03-04-24th
    04-05-17th
    05-06-16th
    06-07-13th
    07-08-16th

This Spurs team is 22nd, they'd be on pace to win 50+ games if they had those rankings tbh.

Yap and Demar iso ball lead to easier baskets for Portland. At that pace team d has no chance.

Those numbers are skewed really. Their offense fueled their D against the worst teams in the league but they were always exposed against elite teams. Nash was horrendous on D and so was Amare. Maid Marion was good at opportunistic steals but his perimeter D was awful.

Them being average takes into account stopping bad teams and being exposed by good ones- thus the term average.

Forbes and Mills are just to small to play extended minutes they just get abused on defense all the time.

Mills is too small. Forbes is simply too unskilled

Mills is too small. Forbes is simply too unskilled. He wasn't drafted for a very good reason.

this game showed another time, as if this was necessary, that no team can pretend to win with no perimeter defense...and that we have a horrid back court defense...simply no one can stay in front of a very good offensive back court player (and Portland have two of them).
Mills, Forbes, Bellinelli, DDR = 0 perimeter defense = orgy of blood for TJ and Damien sharks

Murray, White, DDR, Gay/ Bertans, and LMA would/should close each half so it's not a big deal to start Forbes for 6 or 7 minutes each half.

Forbes issues isn't a lack of skill. I've been pretty down on him for most of his time here but he's a great shooter, can knock down spot ups and knock down shots off the dribble as well as occasional drives to the rim

His issue is he's 3 inches too short, average arm span, and unathletic. Best case for him is probably a below average defender even with him having to be hidden on D.

the real solution is to trade both Mills and Forbes and replace them with players who can hit the 3 and defend. Ship DeRozan out too while you at it and move Pau's contract.

Like for who? Everyone is placing high value for the kind of 3 and defend player you seek.

Spurs invented the 3 and defend player in Bowen and now everyone wants that kind of player.

The only option I see for a small market team is to seek out lottery busts and put them through the Spurs program. So like Caboclo, Stanley Johnson etc. Guys with length and athleticism but haven't learned how to shoot.

No amount of effort by Forbes is going to compensate for his short arms!

If we can draft a tall SG who can stroke the 3 and play defense I would have no problem using our first draft pick. To me Mills, Forbes, and DEROZZ are not what we need as starting SG in today’s NBA they are to flawed and are just Terrible defensive players.
