Millions of Americans could be stunned as their tax refunds shrink

Millions of Americans filling out their 2018 taxes will probably be surprised to learn that their refunds will be less than expected or that they owe money to the Internal Revenue Service after years of receiving refunds.

People have already taken to social media, using the hashtag #GOPTaxScam, to vent their anger. Many
blame President Trump and the Republicans for shrinking refunds.

Some on Twitter even said they
wouldn’t vote for Trump again after seeing their refunds slashed. Some refunds have decreased because of changes in the law, such as a new limit on property and local income tax deductions, and

some have decreased because of how the IRS has altered withholding in paychecks.

Early data can shift a lot, tax experts say, but there’s reason to believe frustrations could rise as more Americans complete their tax returns.

    The Government Accountability Office
warned last summer that the number of tax filers who receive refunds was likely to drop for the 2018 tax year,

while the number of filers who owe money would rise.

The GAO pointed to an IRS estimate that about 4.6 million fewer filers would receive refunds this tax filing season.

Another 4.6 million filers were likely to owe money who had not had that experience in the past.

80 percent of filers received a tax cut, and

about 5 percent wound up paying more in federal income taxes.

Many Americans prefer refunds, even though personal finance experts
say it’s not a wise idea to get one.

Time to Pay the Trump Tax as GOP Tax Cut for the Rich Hits Working Families Hard

“Republicans ran a sort of stimulus program buy reducing your withholding under new tables without the experience of knowing what would happen.

About 25% of taxpayers who had been itemizing deductions will not be able to do so under the new law and

those people are going to get a real shock
because of the limitation of how much they can deduct for state and local taxes…

and you’re going to pay more.”

Trump’s tax laws take away from police officers the ability to deduct cleaning their uniforms, their guns, etc

as well as taking away property taxes and medical deductions and home equity loan against your house.

He also said all of this was done instantaneously.

He said many people will have to borrow money to pay the IRS.

Republicans didn’t phase this huge tax overhaul in slowly because

“Why did they do this so abruptly, why didn’t they phase in the way Ronald Reagan did?

Because they couldn’t make the budget numbers work for the tax cut for the richest among us

unless they hit the middle class first fully,”

MSNBC just gave a precise explanation of Trump's thinking:

'He views The Rule of Law as presidential harassment'

To comprehend this, remember Trump's life is built on the premise that there are no rules that apply to him.

    He even cheats at golf

    Everything follows from that

Former Trump Aide Sues President for Allegedly Using Campaign NDA to Exact Retribution for Tell-All Book

Former White House communications aide and new member of the Trump White House tell-all book club Cliff Sims is

suing President Trump for his attempts to enforce a nondisclosure agreement signed by Sims

—and many others—when he worked for the Trump presidential campaign.

    Sims, the New York Times
reports, is suing Trump in his official capacity as president, saying that

Trump is using his campaign apparatus to seek retribution against federal employees,

    like Sims,

who are writing and disclosing information about their time working for the federal government,

not as an employee of the campaign.

The suit was prompted by the

Trump campaign organization’s filing of an arbitration claim against Sims

last week following the publication of
Team of Vipers, which, from the le,

you can tell was not a fawning account of Sims’ 500 days in the West Wing.

The suit, filed in D.C., says

Trump “is seeking to impose civil liability against

Mr. Sims through application of NDAs

that apply to information Mr. Sims learned solely during his federal service.”

“The suit notes that Mr. Trump appears to be

selective in enforcing the nondisclosure agreements [as] he attempted to enforce it against Omarosa Manigault Newman, whose book also infuriated him, but

he did not do so against Sean er, or Corey Lewandowski and David Bossie,

“Mr. Trump has repeatedly used the threat of arbitration over the nondisclosure agreements to silence former aides.

It has not always been successful:

One former aide, Sam Nunberg, succeeded in a counterclaim when Mr. Trump tried to enforce the agreement during the 2016 campaign, and the dispute was settled.”

Trump, for his part, has been very Trumpy about the whole thing, directing diss tweets Sims’ way.

“A low level staffer that I hardly knew named Cliff Sims wrote yet another boring book based on made up stories and fiction,”

    Trump tweeted at one point.

“He pretended to be an insider when in fact he was nothing more than a gofer.”

El Paso Rejects Trump: Majority Of Those Attending MAGA Rally Live Far From The Border City

Donald Trump held an anti-immigration rally in El Paso on Monday night, but most of the people in attendance were not from the border city.

“The majority of people that she’s seen walking in… were not from El Paso.

They were driving from hours away… so he’s going to get a protest tonight.”

Citing unemployment rates and DOW numbers is a pretty useless indicator of how the economy is doing. That said, I'm of the firm belief that the president doesn't have much influence over the economy, regardless of political affiliation. Let's look at a dispassionate, objective analysis of median household income growth:

As the excellent data from Sentier Research makes clear, the mainstream U.S. household was struggling before the Great Recession. At this point, real household incomes are about where they were during the middle of the Great Recession.
    https://talkmarkets.com/content/us-m...105058&page=3#

Trump fans are in a perpetual circle jerk as they credit him for the supposedly "best economy in history" (a blatant falsehood), but we see in this study that growth (in median household income) ed upward at the end of 2014 and has maintained that trajectory since.

    https://www.marke ch.com/story/th...ury-2017-05-23

What I think has happened is that economy finally corrected itself following the recession. Trump nor Obama don't really deserve any credit here. This was written in 2014, during the Obama administration, when the economy was charging up, evaluating why the economy does better under Democratic presidents than Republicans. The basic conclusion:

Maybe none of the above. Blinder and Watson propose that the answer has less to do with policies—taxing, spending, redistributing—and more to do with dumb luck.

Former KFC Employee Awarded More Than $1.5M In Breastfeeding Case

An ex-worker argued that her employer made it so difficult to pump at work that her milk supply dried up.

she was hired months after giving birth in 2014 and

was only allowed to pump about once during each

    10-hour training shift. KFC?

The lawsuit says she was demoted and struggled and

co-workers complained she got “breaks” to pump breast milk. Trash supporters!

Irrelevant and incoherent Trump is upstaged in El Paso

President Trump went to El Paso, which he falsely said had been rampant with crime before border construction, to whip up his base in favor of a wall.

Before he could take the stage, however, congressional negotiators reached a tentative deal to reopen the border — with 55 miles of bollard fencing, but no wall.

Meanwhile, at a nearby location, Beto O’Rourke gathered a crowd of thousands to celebrate American values.

Trump, in short, was essentially irrelevant, as he increasingly is.

(Only his cheerleaders at Fox News bothered to cover him live in entirety.)

Conservative tries to scare Democrats away from getting Trump’s taxes — and it backfires spectacularly

York writes that “if Democrats get Trump tax returns, some Republicans warning what goes around comes around.”

unnamed GOP official who said that,

“Once you go down the road, there’s no turning back…

there are lots of people we could have subpoenaed their tax returns the last few years that would be very interesting.”

York’s tweet was immediately bombarded by liberals and Democrats

who cheered on any effort to make politicians more accountable by releasing their tax returns.

What’s more, they pointed out that the only reason Democrats are going to unprecedented lengths to obtain Trump’s taxes is that

Trump has steadfastly refused to release them, defying both his own campaign promises and

40 years’ worth of norms among presidential candidates.

    https://www.rawstory.com/2019/02/con...e+Raw+Story%29

“I’m under a routine audit and it'll be released,

and as soon as the audit is finished it will be released."

That's one promise Trash's cult mob, Hannity, etc aren't screaming for him to keep
