Are you serious? That's even worse than calling Floyd GOAT.
That's not true. That's why the Ring's pound for pound moniker and " le" carries so much esteem.
Ali or SSR are the only ones in the debate and even then, Ali's resume is just a hair better. Liston, Patterson, Foreman, Frazier, Norton, Spinks, Shavers, Moore- that's 8 legitimate HoFers and he had quality fights with Quarry and Chuvalo amongst others. Where SSR wins out is the volume of fights.
In this day and age p4p rankings are just a marketing gimmick, you can look up who owns the ring for proof of that. There's some substance there, but once it's all said and done nobody will remember Manny's long p4p reign... something like 10 years on the list.
If you wan't to entertain the question you'll always go to Ali's numerous battles (I would never mention Norton, he SHOULD have a winning record vs Ali, SSL and the fab 4 or go talent-wise and pick out somebody like Tyson or RJJ if you want to make excuses for later career shortcomings. I don't see the point in arguing overall best, the boxers are too different to pigeonhole them into one category. I don't try comparing Willie Pep to Whitaker, too much of a gap in time to compare a modern fighter to some pre-Ali fighter.
What do you have against Stallone?
At least you admit you've already given up on phil being anywhere near the top of this list.
No current boxer can be called the GOAT of anything, tbh.
That is possibly the only sport where that can be said thanks to the bull mockery they made of that sport. With the ten thousands fractions of belts per weight class they have, and the fact that anyone can retain one of those, picking and choosing rivals as they like.
Mayweather made a journeyman like Maidana wear clown gloves out of fear of getting knocked the out, he avoided an in prime Pacquiao and pulled a freak show vs a non-boxer. You can't compare that to guys that were forced to face the absolute best their weight classes had to offer on 15 round fights.

Basketball - Kareem Abdul Jabbar (put college and NBA career together best ever)
Baseball - W. Mays (lost years to war otherwise would have beat Ruth in homers)
Football - J. Brown
Golf - Tie -Tiger pre sex scandal but overall Jack Nicklaus
Boxing - Ali
Hockey - Gretzky
Greatest Overall Athlete - Bo Jackson pre-injury, all star in NFL and MLB
Zen master > popa of course, but coach b is the goat of all.
Bolt and Phelps in their respective sports
Sachin Tendulkar For cricket.
The end of Tyson’s career was leaving Rooney and Cayton.
One of if not the GOAT player - coach combinations:

No love for Gordie Howe as the GOAT hockey player? Not only was Gordie the best player in the game, he was also the best fighter. Even Gretzky has said Gordie is the best ever.
I'd have to put a vote in for Hank Aaron in baseball. The true home run king, 3-time Gold Glove winner, 2 batting les, MVP the year his team won the World Series.
And in basketball you'd need to include Wilt in the conversation just on the basis of his gaudy numbers, and Russell for leading his team to double-digit les. No problem with MJ being named the GOAT, but LeBron shouldn't be entering the conversation until after those three, and probably not until after Kareem, Bird, and maybe even TD and Kobe. Lebron calling himself the GOAT cracks me up.
It's Americans discussing hockey. Of course they think Gretzky's the undisputed NHL GOAT. Wayne might be the GOAT, but it surely isn't undisputed... Gordie, Lemieux, Orr...
solid post up until here.
You're putting Tim as maybe in the same place as Kream and Bird. Hmmmn okay.
But then you put Tim in Kirby in the same sentence? Stop, just stop.
Incidentally while LeBron has not caught Tim yet and may never,
LeBron >>>>>> Kirby.
Of all the GOATS and "closest GOATS" I think Gretzky is further ahead of 2nd place than any other sport. Dude is the GOAT and no other person should even be in the conversation.
Dude has more assists (just assists) than the next closest person has points (goals + assists). That's just stupid to think of.
His spot is the most set in stone of any sport. He probably said Gordie b/c he didn't want to sound like an asshole....he knows he's the GOAT.
of all the GOATs up for debate, the only one where there is literally zero rational argument against them is Gretzky. You'd have to be re ed, or just a contrarian of the highest order, to think anyone else even comes close. Lemieux might have made the debate slightly interesting if not for his health problems, but it is what it is.
And it's going to be impossible for anyone to ever challenge Wayne since the NHL has turned more defensive over the years, with the larger pads and butterfly goaltending technique. Maybe ClipperNation can elaborate.
Lemieux was more spectacular imo
This. Gretzky is so far ahead of everyone it’s crazy
No.
It’s Cratzky
I’ll let myself out
