So you don't want to talk about you anymore after spending years talking about yourself in every thread you post in? Oh that's right, it would mean you would have to talk about real you and not fake you, since fake you didn't really exist.

    Glad somebody posted this thread.

Avant, who was the first great black bluesman?

Women like Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Clara Smith, Alberta Hunter were the first to record (early 20') what would be called..."blues". But, they recorded with jazz bands so...hmmm? That "country" blues, had a few men record a few records but the first legit "STAR" was Texan Blind Lemon Jefferson who first recorded in 1925.

The classic "Black Snake Moan"...and he ain't singing about no snake.

Willie Lee Thrower (March 22, 1930 – February 20, 2002) was an American football quarterback. Born near Pittsburgh in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, Thrower was known as "Mitts" for his large hands and arm strength, which stood in contrast to his 5' 11" frame. He was known to toss a football 70 yards. Thrower was a part of the 1952 Michigan State Spartans who won the national championship. He became one of the first National Football League (NFL) African American quarterbacks in the modern era, playing for the Chicago Bears in 1953 (Fredrick Douglas Fritz Pollard was a pre-modern era African American quarterback; George Taliaferro was a modern era contemporary of Thrower.) .

I recommend the book....ENDZONE...by Dom DeLillo.

Taft Robinson a black 9.3 sprinter the first black footballer/trackster at Logos College in Texas. Great read, more than just football.

    Another great read....

The Courtship of Marcus Dupree.....Willie Morris. Also more than just football.

    Hard to believe....

Dupree was running so many KO's back to score, the offense went to the coach to take him off the KO return team so they could play more, ha~~~~

Dupree was so knocked out he crawled off the field .....to the UT sideline.
    Really was a violent collision
    Sweep
Dupree planting at the sideline and beginning to head upfield
Peavy on a beeline from middle of the field
    BAM
    Dupree’s helmet went a flying
Now days Peavy would have been tossed

Been there and done that as all those kids run around seeing what fits in a pocket. Anything of real value is behind me, they can have the junk.

I simply ask 5 if wanting 3, so when they got me down to 3....cool.

What has always got me about Mexicans is why they can't leave that 16 year old girl at home to baby sit the others, this hauling the whole tribe around....???

    Another one...

They will stand in a line, with plenty of time to get their papers/whatever together while waiting. Oh no, they wait until it's their turn then they start searching for that whatever, and there is always something they just don't get.

So many of us here in Cali know what Davey Crockett must have felt like at the Alamo.

Respect to Joe Louis. He actually showed a lot of restraint when he fought. There's a lot of heat-of-the-moment type that happens in combat sports in order to secure a victory. And there were a lot of examples of Louis backing off an opponent when they were obviously about to go down. There was no hovering over an opponent trying to get one last shot on somebody who's down on a knee, he was quick to go back to his corner, etc. All in an era when he probably didn't need to.

You read my mind, I have thought that exact same thing. The impact he had on his race was huge, he was their hero.

    Gotta love...."The Brown Bomber".
