Won't be playoff-eligible anymore because yesterday was the deadline.
Not according to the Woj tweets.

Yeah, just read that. Well, hopefully he goes to the Bucks. It'll be cool to see the Gasol brothers together.

Pau handled this like the consummate pro that he is.

    Good luck, Pau.

(But this doesn't make up for what you did in '08-10.)

Wow didn’t think it would ever happen. So what does this mean money wise for the Spurs?

Today is the deadline for players who have played to be cut and signed iirc.

Nothing this season but probably a break on his $6.7 million guaranteed next season. Spurs likely weren't in danger of being anywhere near the luxury tax but PATFO probably had him cut down the guaranteed money owed next season (I think that is a thing) to buy him out.

Oh . I forgot he's with the Raps not Milwaukee. I'm not really watching games outside of Spurs games this year.

Good. It was an awkward situation for both sides.

Don't really get his signing with the Bucks, though. Sure, they don't really have a true backup C, but for a guy who's primary goal was supposedly playing time, at best he'll compete with Ilyasova for spot minutes.

Hopefully they're in no rush to sign a third C. This team needs another playable body on the perimeter more than they need that. If Aldridge or Poeltl has to miss significant time, then adjust accordingly.

Big ing deal. Knowing the Spurs, he'll see every penny he's owed. He wasn't even worth a scrub to be named later. Just gives more credence to the fact that the Spurs were actually trying to trade him at the deadline regardless of Pau's dissertation speech on how they weren't.

so does this mean he's completely off the books for 19-20?

Wouldn't surprise me if PATFO went as soft as possible and only had Gasol give up a token amount to make this happen. I'm assuming he stays on the books for about $5 Million or so next year unless notified otherwise. If that is the case, Gasol's salary could be "set off" by whatever deal he signs next summer. We can cross that bridge if we come to it, but in that case, the max the Spurs could set off would be about another $2.5 Million.

Obviously hoping he had to give make way more than this.

wasn't it more that he denied requesting a trade? not so much that the spurs were actually trying to trade him.

either way, this is a bigger deal in the sense that now Poetel knows hes the big man of this team. No need to look over his shoulder. And Our team just got younger by subtracting a 38 year old player.
And most of us were afraid he would still be on the roster next year. for those reasons alone, this was a big deal.

So much for all that perceived trade value. Couldn't even net the Spurs a 2nd round draft pick.
