Why didn’t the Spurs just pay him in full this year and get the $2.5M discount next year in order to maximize their cap space for next year?
I think derailing his MVP run and insisting LMA be the feature of the offense for a good month after the break was the begining but who klnows.
Patiently waiting for site owner to perhaps one day reveal some solid info on what really came down. (with the injury and maybe more).

This should help out Poeltl a lot. Like other people have said PATFO didn’t do this to help the team they only did it because Pau pretty much demanded he wanted out.
Lol. As if this front office actually knows what they’re doing
Yeah they only ran the most winning franchise in 'all teams sports' for 20 years.
Fixed it for you
The discount is not on his next year 6 millions guaranteed ?
Haven't read anything about next year's salary ..

Says that Gasol is $5.1 million in dead cap space?
Wed be ed but it obvious spurs did pau a huuge favor
shams said he gave back 2.5 mo and that’s lowering spurs salary cap hit this year and next year so imo he gave something back from his 2019-2010 salary no ?
We’d be ed if Pau had to play serious minutes, anyway.
The real question is, how is that situation different than it was before they bought out Gasol?
im sure the spurs have their eye on a fa big
exactly.
Look if Pau was misdiagnosed by Spurs med staff, then that sucks.
If not, GTFO and don't let the door hit you on the way out Pau.
Looks like he gave back $1.6 million next season. He was owed $6.7 million next year.
Gasol was a very good option as a third string C.
Not for his current tag .besides this is ultimately going to clear the way for jakob poodle to tear up
His current tag was irrelevant since FA was over.
I agree spurs could of just kept him but youre missing the bigger picture here....POODLE POWER! Will be unleashed
1st win in the post-Pau era![]()
So he took a $900K discount for this season and a $1.6 million discount for next. Wouldn’t we have been better off paying him in full this year and getting the full discount next year to maximize our cap space for next year?
No one has explained this yet
