As part of my masters of accounting I was required to take two statistics courses to supplement the audit class. I did well in both, as I both like math, and am good at it. As an auditor for over a decade now, I work with statistics and random sampling on almost a daily basis, and work with actuaries carrying out statistical analysis for the insurance company that I work for.
Statistics are at the heart of what I do as a profession. Anything that I don't know, I simply walk down the hall and ask an credentialed actuary with a degree in statistics, and about 3 levels of professional certification and ask. We talk math as a matter of course.

Subs ute the probability that any given US adult is white, together with the probability that any given US adult is black, and then do a random sample. You will get numbers that are pretty close to what you see here.
Were one to correct for poverty rates, which are known to have affects on murder rates, (simply "back out" the probability through division), I would guess that the stats would match almost perfectly to the graphs within a reasonable confidence interval of one sigma.

The rates of incarceration, even adjusting for income, are vastly higher than one would expect from random chance. Sentences are statistically longer for equivalent offenses.

Because blacks are more predisposed to violence as per a blend of their surroundings growing up, family issues/family history of violent crime, the situation they live in (blame income inequity all you want, but there are other ways to live not in the hood) and, genetics.
How doe that explain that they are given statistically longer sentences for equivalent offenses?
