Well, that's not entirely accurate either. The USOC does get government funding for certain Paralympics Military programs, and it's pretty much the same reason: sponsorship is harder to find on some of these programs.

And we're not even talking hosting Olympic Games. At least, both the most recent Summer and Winter Games in the US had taxpayer subsidies on them.

Hardly a shoot down. Paralympics are funded by the military for wounded veterans and distinct from the "regular" olympics. I can accept the argument that "if we do it for them, why don't we do it for all disabled people?" but historically veteran benefits and programs have always been handled differently by the military.
