Appeals court says Ohio may withhold Planned Parenthood funding

A divided federal appeals court on Tuesday rejected Planned Parenthood’s cons utional challenge to an Ohio law depriving the organization of state funding because it performs abortions, handing a victory to anti-abortion advocates.

It absolutely is. This is the typical older Christian Conservative ‘issue’, where government intervention is suddenly not just good but mandatory (esp since they lost Roe, etc).

There’s nothing in this for independent, outside closing PPs where they go get a Pap test.

At the time of Roe v Wade most republicans were pro-abortion

"Six of the seven justices in the majority were Republican appointees. The only Democrat appointee, Byron White, voted against Roe v. Wade."

the guy wrote the majority opinion Blackmun iirc was a Nixon appointee. Barry Goldwater's wife was a big planned parenthood figure and Goldwater himself was a big pro-choice guy till he died as he thought government should stay out of people's business. It wasnt until Reagan started courting Falwell that GOP became anti-abortion.

"Richard Nixon, Barry Goldwater, Gerald Ford, and George H.W. Bush were all pro-choice, and they were not party outliers. In 1972, a Gallup poll found that 68 percent of Republicans believed abortion to be a private matter between a woman and her doctor. The government, they said, should not be involved."

Planned Parenthood's first MO was to stem black the growth of the black population. Sanger wrote that in her equivalent to a mission statement.

It’s going to be a wedge issue as usual, it’s just more difficult for Trumpists to call any kind of moral high ground.

Extremely unlikely. People always forget the pendulum swings back the other way. A majority of our citizens are pro choice for starters, so even if they can strike it down now, it will only be temporary.

Once the SCOTUS5 or 6 say abortion is unCons utional, citizens don't matter. The Christian Taliban MINORITY will have installed Christian Sharia in the Cons ution.

Very true, but again, it is all temporary. We seem to judge things by our assumed life span, as we are self centered creatures, but a decade or two is not very long tbh. Again, the pendulum always swings the other way. There are certain things that will win out in the end, and abortion rights is one of them. They fought gay marriage as well, for example.

    "it is all temporary"

It has taken 45 years to overturn abortion rights, and decades for the oligarchy to get 5 hard right (non-"squishy") so-called "justices" for life on SCOTUS.

Overturning the overturning of right to abortion will take decades.

The oligarchy, who now owns and operates govt, is making sure the pendulum won't swing, certainly not against them.

Gay marriage and LGBT still aren't Federally protected

Based on recent history, and current affairs, I assume, conservatively, the worst for the future. And nobody here has said how the future, at least in USA, will be better.
