Jersey retirements are for teams, not for the sport as a whole. Every player who has their Jersey retired by the Spurs were very important pieces to the franchise. Pretty God damned simple to grasp, if you ask me.
In your opinion, how are they going to they keep lowering the standards for this jersey retirement thing?

Are you saying that retiring Ginobili's number was a joke? I don't understand the premise.
Of course no.
.I'm precisely thinking of Avery and to lesser extent Bruce Bowen. I think there is a measure of lowering the standards that we started there that other teams are now following in retiring marginal and role players jersey (see OKC with Collision)..
Def patty mills ! Especially after thatgame winner vs cavs on ginobili day
OK, that's a good argument. I didn't think you'd be saying Manu wasn't worthy, so the timing of the thread confused me.
I think every jersey in the rafters should be there.. I can't really speak on Moore and Silas as it was before my time, but those are the two that stand out to me as there was no championship associated w/ their tenure here. Gervin of course did not ring either, however he is a Hall of Famer and achieved individual success on a high level. If I was forced to choose any member of the Spurs hanging that is associated with championship years that shouldn't be up there, I'd go with Avery.
As for your take on Bruce, he is one of the best defenders of all time, and played relentless defense on the opponent's best player in every one of those years he was a Spur. He was vital to 3 championships and he absolutely deserves his spot in Spurs history.
Avery's was a joke, it should come down!
Disgusting to think Mills will have his jersey retired for having an aussie accent on HEB commercials and because he has a cup of coffee every day with the team and frogs for them afterwards.
Honestly wouldn't be shocked if we retired Pop's buddy Lebron's jersey like Miami did with Jordan. Posting it now so I can bump it 3 years from now
..
The sad part, knowing how soft this franchise, Mills getting his jersey retired is more of a lock than an uncertainty at this point..
He absolutely gets up in the rafters if he doesn't get traded before the end of this contract..Almost sure of that.
More likely that Patty gets re-signed after this contract.
Yup fcker will be here until hes 38 tbh
And then he would become the longest tenured Spur after D-Rob, Sean Elliott and the Big 3..
I'm guessing the next ceremony will be to put Pop's name up there. Not a jersey retirement, of course, but a recognition ceremony to put his name next to Tim, Manu and eventually Tony.
I guess it depends whether Parker or Pop retire first. I've always imagined if Pop were still coaching, Parker might opt to come back to SA on a vet's minimum after his contract with Charlotte, for one final season before retiring.
Why do you guys make threads like this? If you hate this franchise so much, why are you a fan? Are you all 15 and trying to be edgy? I honestly don't get it.
Seriously lol
Really thoughtful poll! I will try to tell people about it and share on social media.
They'll probably retire kawhi Jersey.
The 2011-2016 run from a regular season and playoff standpoint is way too good
What do you want people to do? Eliminate casual conversation and limit everything to praise?
Its very likely they'll retire his number.
I think from they're standpoint its easier to sign scrubs if they show anyones number can be retired![]()
I have no issues with any of the retired jerseys. Avery hit the game clinching shot to win the Spurs’ first championship. I have no idea who Johnny Moore, but old people tell me he was good. Championships tend to bring more jersey retirements.
