I am a homer - but I am also aware that Denver has a decent team - and Jokic is the type of center that gives Aldridge problems because Aldridge cannot easily bully him in the paint - the guy is stout and immoveable.

Aldridge hopefully solves him with speed and great shooting and aggressive play -

I can't understand how Spur fan is readily dismissing the Nuggets - especially when the Spurs are not a good road team.

I think the spurs will win - but the Nuggets are no joke.
I'm not dismissing them at all. In fact my guess is, we lose. But of the three teams we could have faced, I had chosen them. Although Portland without Nurkic is now far less formidable and might actually be the team to beat now.

A lot of these guys who on those who root for a positive outcome are:

    1) Fans of other teams on here to troll Spurs fans

    2) Fans of no teams on here to troll in general

    3) Spurs fans who know that if the Spurs lose, they can seem smart by saying "I told you so" and if they win everyone will be in too good of a mood to call them out on it. So, its a win-win from their perspective.

    4) Genuine Spurs fans who see flaws in the team, but not the equivalent flaws in other teams.

    5) People who like to hate for hates sake. (It amazes me that Spurs fans can "hate" someone like Tony or Manu or Robinson or even an over-achiever like Forbes, but unless a player is a GOAT at their position (TD), they seldom receive near-unanimous support. Some are just wired that way.

    6) Genuine fans with genuine critiques, but those criticism are made in an overly dramatic or profane way. But, hey, who am I to criticize when I've a sig like this

All that said, it is a message board, so we want people with different opinions. If everyone were sickly positive, there'd be no point of discussion.

We could win the series or just as easily get swept. You never know with this team.

I think we all just feel elated that we are not playing GSW. At least going into the series, we feel we have a chance. It may not be great, like maybe 20% maybe? But its still better than the 1% chance of beating GSW.

And if somehow we can beat the Nuggets, then the path to the WCF becomes extremely doable.

What's the point of being a "fan" of a team if you just want to all over them?

I don't understand the "joy" of being a miserable fan.

Everyone knows what this team is. No need to try and on people who want to actually enjoy fanhood instead of being a dime-a-dozen clowns battling for use of the most tired-ass schtick on the board. You're not an expert because you predict the obvious on a 50-50.
They are scared of being wrong. Optimism gets thrashed here. I can see a blind homer getting some grief, but even cautious optimism gets ragged on to no end. Odds of spurs making the second round are low, so its easier to dog it and sound like a know it all.

You simply have to lower expectations when in here. Finding good posts is a challenge.

This Spurs team is just ridiculously volatile. They're capable of losing against any team, and they're also capable of beating any team. I was in attendance when the Spurs beat Denver back in December. They split the season series 2-2. Anything can happen.
Yep. This team is schizo. I gave up predicting after the last winning streak. I don't expect the good guys to win more than a game, but if they pulled out the series, I would not be shocked - pretty elated, but not shocked. With this Spurs team anything could happen against the Nuggets.

All that needs to happen is for Pop to come in with a legit plan to limit Jokic, and the Spurs can steal a game. Once you steal one game, you get HCA, and SA is a pretty strong bet to hold it if they get it. But that game-plan is critical, because no only is the best game to steal the first one, but I have less faith in Pop making proactive adjustments to steal a later game than I do him coming up with a good plan beforehand.
You nailed it. If Pop figures out the perfect plan to steal game 1, then we would have a chance. That last no-contest in Denver is interesting in retrospect, too. Maybe Pop just didn't want to show much against a likely playoff opponent. Just an unpredictable team.

I expect Aldridge to have a big series it seems to me that he always plays his best when matched up against other good big men. It's when he matched up against lesser talent he seems to wafer.

I would bet on this team to win against Denver. If both teams play at their best the Spurs should win it .
Granted the Spurs couldn't hold their best for long, but the focus and motivation are stronger now and I feel they have a pretty good chance.

LMA will outplay Jokic. Jokic won't be guarding LMA because he would get torched. In saying that, LMA is the best player this series. I usually favour the team who has the best player with a few exceptions.

No breaking news but game 1 should indeed be big. Denver isn't battle tested and it might take them at least one game to get in PO mode and understand what different animal it is... including Malone.

    I think LMA should deliver.

Giving that we can all agree Spurs will need a performing DDR, the x factor might Gay.
If he can be the dominant force he has been at the start and middle end of the season, Spurs are in good shape. This is Rudy's year... his first real PO last year were ruiined by #2 show, I'm expecting him to step up.

I think White should be OK, he showed he's not afraid and Beli should have a few nooooyeah! shots along with Bertans hitting a few big ones too hopefully...

So yeah, Game 1 is big.

Spurs split the season series with the Nuggs 2-2
Spurs lost season series vs Rockets 3-1 BUT except for one blowout win by the Rockets all games were won or lost by 7 points or less so its pretty even
    Spurs beat the Warriors 2-1
Spurs split the season series with Portland 2-2
    Spurs lost to Utah 2-1
    Spurs beat OKC 2-1
    Spurs tied Clippers 2-2

So ,Spurs got a good shot maybe Rox and Jazz are harder but that's why they play the games

Maybe not easily but easier than it would be against the Dubs or Rox in the first round. That plus the fact the Spurs very easily could have won that last game in Denver, can't recall if it was one of the many DeFrozen collapses but I do remember feeling that the Spurs could have easily won that game.
Why is that? Denver had a better record than the Rockets and the Rockets are one sprained Harden ankle from being an easy out. Denver is a more balanced team than the Rockets and will be playing at top determination after having a top record in the west all year.

because the Nuggets offense runs through Jokic and LA is better than him. He can shut him down especially with good help defense and can destroy him or Millsap on the other end. Nuggets also don't have great wing defenders. And then there's Pop who can always pull a rabbit out his hat to win you games. Besides that this Nuggets team has never been to the playoffs and White plays well in his home state. So yeah the Spurs got a good chance. I see this series going 6 or 7 games

If the Spurs play like they did on the RRT, they could lose four in a row to anyone. But when they're playing well, I wouldn't pick anyone to win four in a row against them - not even the Dubs. A lot depends on which Spurs team shows up.

If you're talking about "stealing" a game in Denver, the Spurs' road record says that they would have to be the best version of themselves. But it's the NBA. Every game is up for grabs. That's why they play them.

BTW - it seems like most people are talking about Denver in 6. Well the 6th game, if there is one, will be in SA. It's hard to eliminate a team from the playoffs on the road - they talk about that all the time. The Spurs likely lose this series. But I'd pick 5 games or 7 games before I bet on them losing a Game 6 at home.
