Pop wouldn't have been able to coach the clippers to the playoffs... He wouldn't have been able to coach the nuggets to the 2nd spot... He wouldn't have been able to coach the bucks to the top record... And if we were in those positions, we would have said we don't have enough talent... Those coaches maximized their talent... He definitely wouldn't have been playing the young players, so they wouldn't have developed into competent players today... Pop today isn't the Pop that won us five rings... The mind changes, motivations change, the game also changes

If you think that happens than you are delusional. He will run back the same team next year
Who knows, he has 2 1st round picks and will need to re-sign Rudy. He'll need to start leaning on the younger players especially at the guard positions.

I can't wait to see how this place behaves once the current regime is gone, the winning is over and we become the Suns, Bulls & Knicks. Be careful what you wish for.....

You are beyond stupid, man. As if Pop didn't lean on young players (Poeltl, White, Forbes & Bertans...), although if you actually argued he should have more then I would agree.

The Clippers ended up with a lower seed and worse record, yet Pop couldn't have done what Doc Rivers did. *Eye roll*

The Bucks and Nuggets are more versatile, talented have elite talent (Giannis & Nikola) but somehow one of the greatest coaches ever could do what Bud and Malone did.

There is a segment of this fanbase that is moronic, toxic and needs a whole lot of perspective....

    You included, idiot....

Mike Malone is a good coach moron. Is Pop supposed only lose to HOF caliber coaches or something?

He isn't infallible but I get this is the schtick of you pack of moronic trolls....

Why did it suck though? Who put the roster together?
What were your expectations given that the big 3 are gone and Leonard forced PATCO to trade him? A le contender? A threat to GS? Yeah this a flawed roster. Kawhi played a major part in it. Don't let your hate for Pop cloud your judgement.

Spurs development system and attention to detail are elite. That's how the Spurs without a lot of talent survive to make it to the playoffs.

What was obviously lacking this year was any capability of defense.

That and a lack of attempts from the 3point line. Spurs aren't doing anything to get a 3 point shooter open. The mid-range players like DeRozan and Aldridge aren't looking to pass.

Also, in game management isn't what it used to be. Spurs need a younger coach that pays attention to details on the court. Pop is more a big picture guy who has no business micro-managing the game.

    Its 2019 and craterface...

    - hates 3-pointers
    - got his roster built on corporate knowledge beat by a bunch of kids
    - benched his best defender for a fat wombat
    - willingly built a team around the core of career winners Derozan-LMA-Gay
    - managed to prepare his team to score 4 points in the first 9 minutes of a game 7
    - get carried like his teacher Larry Brown used to
    - would've had Donovan Mitc in Austin this time last year
All of this. So sick of having to watch Lamarcus Aldridge/Derozan chuck contested 2's all ing game. Are we certain at this point that Pop designed the 2014 offensive scheme? Because it sure doesn't seem like it.

Rather trade DDR, LMA and Mills for players who love the game more than themselves. The quit on Pop. Quit on the Spurs, and quit on the fans.

The winning has been over for the past two seasons, tbh. The way this league is structured, you want to be those teams, get high picks. That was the Nuggets, Blazers, OKC, even the Dubs a few years ago.

From a coaching standpoint (X’s, O’s), what are Pop’s strong suits? (Compared to his coaching peers)

Offensive design? No. He’s middle of the pack.
In game adjustments? No. He’s average at best.
Timeouts - drawing up plays? Pre-2014 yes. Since then? Astounding no.
Game planning? Yes, this has been an area of strength.
Defensive strategy? Yes, this has historically been an area of strength.

Pop is 70 years old. He’s not going to out-innovate anyone. He is what he is. The challenge is, his strengths as a coach have faded. For a coach who takes pride in defense, he builds a team full of no defense. His time has passed and he should’ve hung them up with Timmy.

Pop is being exposed in the sense that Timmy, Manu, and Kawhi masked his deficincies. It’s only going to look worse for him

Kawhi forced a trade. What were the other packages out there? The Lakers didn’t want to trade any of their decent prospects (who look worse now in retrospect). The Sixers wouldn’t even trade Fultz.

Pop got forced into this awful roster because of a malcontent, and the team lost three All Defensive Team perimeter players once Murray got injured. It was patchwork to say the least.

He literally made zero adjustments 😂😂 His only adjustment was increase Mills’ minutes

Popovich is NOTHING without Timothy Duncan and Manu Ginobili. Those guys made him
    and maybe Bud...

List of other teams who’ve won les since 2007...

    Celtics superteam
Lakers with Kobe/Gasol before he sucked/Odom before he OD’d/Bynum before his knees went
Dirk pulled one out of his ass
    Lebron x3
    Warriors

    That’s it

Of those teams listed above, the Lakers, Mavs, Heat and Cavs are in varying degrees of disaster, though Mavs did luck out with two dumb GM trades this past year. And the Warriors had to get a snake to join them to win a second le.

While that is glaringly apparent, it is hard to give much credence to his "big picture". After all, in the big picture he constructed this roster and stayed the course with it. Before that his "big picture" included the Pau's and Mills' contracts. Probably more examples.
