From a coaching standpoint (X’s, O’s), what are Pop’s strong suits? (Compared to his coaching peers)

Offensive design? No. He’s middle of the pack.
In game adjustments? No. He’s average at best.
Timeouts - drawing up plays? Pre-2014 yes. Since then? Astounding no.
Game planning? Yes, this has been an area of strength.
Defensive strategy? Yes, this has historically been an area of strength.

Pop is 70 years old. He’s not going to out-innovate anyone. He is what he is. The challenge is, his strengths as a coach have faded. For a coach who takes pride in defense, he builds a team full of no defense. His time has passed and he should’ve hung them up with Timmy.

Pop is being exposed in the sense that Timmy, Manu, and Kawhi masked his deficincies. It’s only going to look worse for him
All true, plus I am tired of having an asshole as the Spurs' top dog. I hate the press, too; and they are morons for the most part. But I would like the Spurs' HC to get over himself and behave with some civility in post-gamers.

Brent Barry has no coaching experience, none, and you want him to replace Pop? WTF
not as coach, as president of basketball operations.

Im sure you’d rather have a 70 year old alcoholic as your boss than an innovative 40 year old hungry individual.

The winning has been over for the past two seasons, tbh. The way this league is structured, you want to be those teams, get high picks. That was the Nuggets, Blazers, OKC, even the Dubs a few years ago.
Pretty sure the team is still a playoff contender and hasn't gone under .500 for a season. Only the Warriors are a le contender amongst the teams you mentioned and even they needed great fortune to reach that level.

Who saw Curry as an all-time great PG & Klay/Draymond as great core pieces coming out of college. Obviously, the same can be said of Parker, Ginobili (overseas) and Leonard.

I understand that doesn't suit your narrative, but plenty of teams have tanked and tanked and tanked with no les in sight....

Kawhi forced a trade. What were the other packages out there? The Lakers didn’t want to trade any of their decent prospects (who look worse now in retrospect). The Sixers wouldn’t even trade Fultz.

Pop got forced into this awful roster because of a malcontent, and the team lost three All Defensive Team perimeter players once Murray got injured. It was patchwork to say the least.
Why did Kawhi force a trade? A “goat” coach that players supposedly love (the people’s coach), couldn’t find a way to keep him? All the love and adoration Pop gets from player and media, and he couldn’t keep Kawhi?

I don't trust his plays it always feels that will brick after a timeout , yet he was fun to watch for 20+ years brought rings and deserves to leave without firing

In retrospect Spurs should’ve offered the max and Spurs could be in the 2nd round on their way to the WCF

Why did it suck though? Who put the roster together?
    Lol. Seriously?

It is what it is because Kawhitter forced his hand. Have some of you fools forgotten recent history?? I mean seriously, all the way off.

And in case you have forgotten, we were up on the #1 seed in 2017 when ZaZa struck. Then Nephew happened.

No KL didn't force them to rely on undersized non-athletic players. If anything he was masking the roster defeciencies. Granted the injury to DJ hurt the plans since Pop considers him their best defender. But you need more than 1 guy.

What's your point? The Spurs won game one against the #2 seeded Denver and led by 19 in game 2 before losing the series. They weren't beating Golden State in a series no matter how many times you try to spin it.

Agree his act with the press gets old. The guy refuses to own up to his mistakes. He should have said my fault I should have made sure the team was better prepared to take a foul in that situation. Instead he says LA didn't hear him over 20000 people and sounds like a moron.

Clearly comprehension isn't your strong suit? How many would be ing about this team if we were still riding Kawhi and gang toward the WCF as we speak??

Actually, stupid question. Most of you would be anyway because all too many of you fools are idiots.

And yes, only one team can be called the best team ever assembled. So if we don't win the LOBT against that team, you still need to , huh?

Pop's the GOAT, he will leave on his own terms whenever he wants..he just took the 2 seed to the final moments of a game 7, too, so it's not like his system doesn't work anymore..
You act like this should be a total surprise taking an inexperienced team to the brink of an elimination game with supposedly two all-NBA players on his roster. Classic harlem post

    So, who should replace Pop?
The most influential voice for naming his successor will be Pop, himself.

Which means we should prepare to see a head coach version of wombat.

Pop wouldn't have been able to coach the clippers to the playoffs... He wouldn't have been able to coach the nuggets to the 2nd spot... He wouldn't have been able to coach the bucks to the top record... And if we were in those positions, we would have said we don't have enough talent... Those coaches maximized their talent... He definitely wouldn't have been playing the young players, so they wouldn't have developed into competent players today... Pop today isn't the Pop that won us five rings... The mind changes, motivations change, the game also changes
    this...since 2015

He's a great coach, but he overcoaches way too ing much. I've had to explain to people that if he were coaching GS, they wouldn't be as good as they are because he'd be ing with the rotations and as soon as someone gets hot, he would call a timeout and bench then. It's what he does. And we all know he does this bull , but some like to ignore it.. Every year there are some guys that should never be on the floor together, but he makes sure they are ALWAYS on the floor with each other. Most recent, these combinations have included Mills/Gasol, Mills/Bellineli, Diaw/West.. I absolutely hate seeing us get a big lead, because then he starts his bull trying to show the world how smart he is.

to be fair Pop plays stupid line ups when up 10 or more points during the regular season to see which line ups work and to have everybody on the floor with every combination. It's kind of understandable since the regular season is nothing but a bigass training camp for him. But doing that in the playoffs is totally re ed and unnecessary
