funding restricted?
Guadalupe Blanco River Authority is a ing joke. The own a series of hydroelectric dams/lakes on the Guadalupe River starting below New Braunfels. Out of 5 lakes, two dams have failed in the last three years and they have no current plans to fix them. Here is a video of Lake Dunlap failing Tuesday morning. It's went from a lake to a mudhole in one day. Lake Wood broke 3 years ago and they are still "studying" how to fix it.

They could afford to move their office from Seguin to New Braunfels for 6 million but "cant' afford" to fix the dams.
probably a bunch of older good ol' boys who don't move or talk very fast

RIP lake Dunlap. My first time attempting to water ski and I almost drowned there.
Yeah, taught my kids to water ski on McQueeney (the next lake down) and now teaching my grandkids to kayak and ski there.
I'd be talking to a good attorney today if I owned a house on that lake. Could you imagine paying through the teeth for lakefront property and now you have a big ing hole in your yard instead. That combined with their retaining walls now being without the opposing pressure from the lake is going to murder property values.
Yep....some just lost a million+ in one day.

I few years ago, after big flood, some riverside home owners actually asked govt to raise their houses onto stilts.
But it's infrastructure week, right? Should be able to patch that right up.
Hurricanes, mudslides (California especially along the coastline).

And yes you are taking a risk buying stuff near water.
Rockport, Port A, Aransas Pass are still not fully recovered.
In California living near any large amount of timber is now a huge risk. Preventive Management is expensive and in general taken for granted, and even then its still a risk. All of our big ports from NY to LA are going to experience problems that will come quicker than once expected. With changing rainfall patterns and building over land that would otherwise soak up rainfall is going to make things very interesting. Very difficult to predict proper drainage.

Id like to have seen that hole made a couple of feet lower.

This number has climbed from 10,213 high-hazard potential dams in 2005 and is anticipated to continue to climb as areas below dams continue to be developed. With population growth expected to slow, the U.S. has an opportunity to more methodically develop currently unpopulated areas to avoid placing homes and other structures below dams, thereby reducing the number of structures classified as “high-hazard potential.” Another 11,882 dams are currently labeled as significant-hazard potential, meaning a failure would not necessarily cause a loss of life, but could result in significant economic losses. While these figures climb, the increase has slowed because more dams are inspected on a more regular basis, allowing for the identification of deficiencies before they lead to a failure.
The average age of our nation’s dams is 56 years. By 2025, seven out of 10 dams in the United States will be over 50 years old. Fifty years ago dams were built with the best engineering and construction standards of the time. However, as the scientific and engineering data have improved, many dams are not expected to safely withstand current predictions regarding large floods and earthquakes. In addition, many of these dams were initially constructed using less-stringent design criteria for low-hazard potential dams due to the lack of development.
