Why don't they just trade James for AD straight up, Hilario? Draft someone with the #4 to develop with the rest of the young scrubs and sign a middle tier star like Jimmy Butler.Trade bait for AD, of course. No way in they keep that pick. #4 plus any combination of young players and a future pick should do it this time.

1) The optics. The "we take care of our stars" mantra would go out the window. Jeanie would never do it. Plus, after D12 wouldn't stay; we were dissed by LMA, Iggy, and several other players - despite being "the Lakers" and now that LBJ came by himself, we trade him away? Doubtful.
2) If we did, we will REALLY set ourselves back - tryna win with kids in the WC is tough (as evidenced of us having a top 5 player and still missing the playoffs).
3) What would be the return for an aging star with 3-4 years left in the tank? Gone are the days that a team trades a load of draft picks for an aging star (i.e. Boston - NJ Nets trade - SMFH).
Just not worth it IMO, all things considered.
