Possibilities: Talen Horton-Tucker (G, Iowa State), Nickeil Alexander-Walker (G, Virginia Tech), Rui Hachimura (F, Gonzaga), KZ Okpala (F, Stanford), Grant Williams (F, Tennessee), Brandon Clarke (F, Gonzaga), Keldon Johnson (G/F, Kentucky)
Expert quote: O'Donnell on Grant Williams: "Williams' best attribute might be his feel for the game, which helps him contribute to winning basketball even without a signature skill."
They better not waste the 19th pick on a bigman.
Great Post appreciate you posting the players vids Spurtacular nicely done![]()
Thanks for doing this OP. Great job.
Thanks for posting Spurtacular! Appreciate the hard work!
I was hoping somebody would post something like this!
I just hope we don't pick a guard again this year.
Surprised myself really starting to like Nic Claxton the guy plays great defense him and Murray and White would make our team top defense and top in steals for sure. His offense is not bad very quick to roll I think White and him would kill teams on pick and roll.
Agree the spurs have enough of those.
One guy that happened to catch my eye wasn't a featured player on the highlight reel. His name was Perkins and he was setting up the highlight player with a lot of nifty passes. Don't know anything about him but that skill set stood out in my memory when I got through the review.
It struck me that someone is going to fall to 19 as I was looking at this small sampling of possibilities. I really liked 3 or 4 of them.
But my hope is that the Spurs don't blow it. One popular choice Goga Bitadze has dud written all over him, imo. Besides, we had
a much better version of him with Boban and Pop didn't know what to do with him.
Well, I wanted to see what all the projections are/were and to really see if there was anyone who could be that good at 19, and I figured I'd help everyone else while I was at it.
Goga and Boban aren't similar, super random comp tbh. Goga seems like a very safe pick at 19, looks like a good starting center.
Brandon Clarke and Grant Williams are the ones that have some of the biggest dud potential really hope neither are chosen by the Spurs.
I just don't want unathletic s like Grant Williams and Cameron Johnson.
My thoughts on these guys...
Goga Bitadze: Poverty stricken man's Boban.
Charles Bassey: Undersized big who could be a versatile player in time. I wouldn't look at him before second round.
Keldon Johnson: An athletic polished player who could be a liability while he develops range.
Daniel Gafford: Hype based on dunks that are about wingspan and not even leaping. A future d-league perennial.
Brandon Clarke: The best shooting touch from inside the paint of anyone. Great athleticism and leadership. Would love if Spurs got him, but he'll probably go a few picks earlier.
Sekou Demboya: He's only 18ish years old right now. He's a stash who could pay a big dividend down the road or be a total bust. Hard to tell. He'd be worth the gamble in the second round, but Spurs sometimes over extend like they did with Nikola Multinov.
Nicolas Claxton: I give this guy a swinger's chance at being the next Chris Bosh. A 6'11 lefty with a very similar skill set and athleticism.
Nickeil Alexander-Walker: Reminiscent of the Nuggets' guards. Hot from three on any given night but otherwise nothing to write home about.
Rui Hachimura: The next Jimmy Butler in a manner of speaking. He'll be a "draft steal" just like him, too. He's a little more polished offensively and probably not as good a defender. Spurs should thank their lucky stars if he falls to 19. But I suspect someone will wise up and he'll be taken top 15.
Bruno Fernando: Dale Davis esque.
PJ Washington: NBA body and NBA athleticism. Comparable to a younger Rudy Gay.
Grant Williams: PJ Tucker esque.
KJ Okpala: Rail thin with decent athleticism. A project more suitable for a second round pick.
Kevin Porter Jr.: Basically a future back-up PG. Serviceable lefty.
Bol Bol: Imagine a black baby Boban who can keep up a little better with smaller players on pic n' roll.
Boban's more dominant, more athletic, taller, and can shoot the three. But in terms of lack of agility and awkwardness, very similar. Goga's a crap pick for a coach that didn't know how to use the much better version of him. Worse yet (though actually better in this case), I assume he'd be a stash pick too.
? Boban more athletic ? Can shoot the 3 ? I think you’re totally wrong on this comparison.
Boban is a decent athlete, tbh. And he's a really good shooter; you obviously missed that (or if you prefer, you're "totally wrong").
Speaking of projections.. my only gripe about TIMVP’s draft info on the draftees is that the projections he has for them are spurs players. Otherwise, they’re real good reads. Also, thanks for the videos!
I don't see that at all. Are we talking about the same player even?
