And yet we have seen him play through pain/injury for a team he supposedly didn't care for, and led them to their first NBA Finals....
Sooo all those narratives about him created by his haters were all fake...go figure![]()

No, the point is that is what other front offices would have understood about Kawhi at the time of the trade. Whether true or not, that was the general perception around the league and you can’t deny that. So it is difficult to see how the spurs front office could’ve swung a better trade at the time.
Don't you think the Spurs themselves had a hand in created those perceptions about Kawhi? I mean all Pop had to say was "Kawhi is taking time off to get fully healthy, when he is done we will be ready for him". Instead Pop threw shade at him multiple times and called out his "camp" in interviews. Not to mention players like Parker and Manu talking naoto Kawhi in an unfavorable light.
The Spurs did a lot of things wrong which ultimately made him lose Trust for the organization, and he was gone.
which would still be better than the sack of we got from toronto
His play this season does not change what he and Uncle did. They purposely derailed his trade value. What he did makes AD and his bull in NO look like Sainthood.
I don’t deny that the Spurs had a hand in the situation going south. They played a role in at least letting some of those perceptions about Kawhi take root. But the key factor that they had no control over was Kawhi camp leaking that he would only resign with an LA team. In my opinion that is the single factor that most severely tanked his trade value. I don’t think he and his camp were justified in screwing over the Spurs that way.
Based on the little that we know now, what would you have done differently if you were running the front office?
Gl in the finals kawhi! I called him going to the finals when he was first traded
You have to accurately remember the whole BS situation. He showed up to camp with this supposed injury. The guy has been on vacation for 4 months, and comes into camp injured. Not even the injury to the ankle that kept him out of the WCF. No this new mysterious injury only he feels.. The Spurs gave him tons of time off for rehab, had him checked out by about 40 doctors. He was cleared to play multiple times and refused to do it.. Guys like Manu and Tony that won 4 rings, playing with Tim going through the playoff battles have no patience for soft ass like that.. Nor should they.. And there is nothing here to indicate Number 2 has some great future in front of him. He is still limping around out there having taken 22 Reg season games off.. In 2 or 3 years no telling if he is still elite. Or even where he will be playing?
There's two teams in LA. Force them into a bidding war to secure getting Kawhi summer 2018 rather than having to beg him to sign the following summer.
“I think it just became a lack of trust,” Robertson told Yahoo Sports. “They didn’t believe Kawhi couldn’t play and that caused a lack of trust in us and then us not believing in them. Any time a player says he’s not capable of playing, you should believe him. Why would Kawhi just stop playing all of a sudden? He’s a compe or. Sometimes you get these team doctors telling you what you can and cannot do, and Kawhi was just in too much pain to get out there. This was a serious issue. They didn’t believe him, and after that, the relationship couldn’t recover and we decided we had to move on.”![]()
Was that a very hard call? he went to the East, to a 60 win team that already went to the EC the year before.
I'd hope I would have found a trade that would have gained the team some cap space, or some other benefit, instead of losing money on the deal.
Leonard would have cost the Spurs 21.3 million this season. DDR cost them 27.7 million. PATFO traded Leonard for an inferior player who was more expensive. That's the cherry on top of the whole mess.
Sure, Uncle Dennis, it wasnt about your nephew not supporting his team through obstacles.
Kawhi shut himself down
Yea you're right. Kawhi's sister hasn't ever lied before on social media. If it was, why delete the video
He's playing thru the same injury nowaka, it was possible for him to play last year.
What video? What are yall talking about?
I still call BS, if it was mistrust over the injury why couldn’t Kawhi do an ESPN interview with Rachel Nichols or something and be like I wanna be out there with my teammates but I’ve got to get this injury right first etc.
You can faintly hear Uncle Fester in the background![]()
Team physicians have the team's best interests at heart, not the player's.
Pop, albeit he was frustrated, should have never publicly berated Kiwi and should have stood by him. I doubt he would have ever wanted to leave San Antonio.
But instead, he treated Kiwi like he was Boban. Pop's ego and elitism is why your 2nd best player in Spurs history left.
No, that can't be the uncle because the sister is in Cali and the uncle is in Toronto.
