Naturally there will be disruption at first but I think long term that the U.K. will be just fine. Let’s bump this thread five years from now and see which economy is doing better overall - U.K. or E.U..
It’s already bad in the UK, comparatively. There is absolutely no need to make this thing 7 years long at the very least imo.
There is a chance things could be much better quicker or worse for a longer period, it’s not finished. This never should have happened.
They are not going to become Bulgaria, but needless economic hardship is really very stupid. Especially for poor folk who get poorer.

    Gibraltar row:

The British government has complained about language in EU contingency plans over a no-deal Brexit. Under the legislation, direct flights between the EU and the UK will continue for nine months in the event of a no-deal Brexit. But Gibraltar International Airport isn’t included in Brussels’ plan, which refers to Spain’s claim on the 800-metre section of land.

The Sunday Times reports a cabinet coup, May "gone in 10 days."

British Prime Minister Theresa May is facing a full-blown cabinet plot to remove her and 11 cabinet ministers have said they want her to resign, The Sunday Times’s political editor said.

“A full blown cabinet coup is under way tonight to remove Theresa May as prime minister,” Tim Shipman said.

Shipman quoted one unidentified cabinet minister as saying: “The end is nigh. She will be gone in 10 days.”

May’s de-facto deputy, David Lidington, is one contender to be interim prime minister but others are pushing for Environment Secretary Michael Gove or Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt, Shipman said.

I think they might be headed for another vote.

This is why we have leaders voted in and dont let the public vote on every single move a government might make in a democracy.
They needlessly made their country poorer. Royal F up. Farange is on the run. What a fckn idiot...

Revoke Article 50 and revote, or prepare for an epic self-wounding.

Weird to think the Tories could end up being the bloc that succeeds in uniting Ireland, freeing Scotland and returning England to the peripheral importance it had in the 15th century.

Britain’s financial sector has gloomiest outlook since 2008 crisis

Optimism about the business outlook among Britain’s financial services firms has fallen at its fastest rate since the 2008 financial crisis

amid concerns about Britain’s exit from the European Union, a survey showed on Monday.

Business volumes among the 84 top financial firms polled have also fallen at their fastest rate since September 2012, the survey by the Confederation of British Industry and accounting firm PwC showed.

The mounting gloom from banks, insurers, fund managers and other financial firms comes as Prime Minister Theresa May battles to get her twice-rejected withdrawal agreement with the EU through a bitterly divided parliament.

The investment management industry saw the sharpest fall in growth, the CBI/PwC survey said, as investors hold on to their cash in turbulent markets, while insurance brokers were the lone bright spot.

    det "r" word:

From testimony by Brexit Secretary Steve Barclay in the House of Lords yesterday regarding a planned vote on the Withdrawal Agreement:

I think if the House of Commons does not approve the WAB [Withdrawal Agreement Bill] hen the Barnier deal is dead in that form and I think the House will have to then address a much more fundamental question between whether it will pursue… a no-deal option or whether it will revoke.

This really illustrates how nutty the world is.
Boris Johnson and Donald Trump, leaders of democratic societies.

Makes me realize authoritarian Russia at least gets competent people in high positions. Even if their intentions are sick.

The insistence of the Britain exit voters reeks of a strong anti-immigration back bone.
The Green party and other more liberal parties than the old standards also gained votes indicating they have a very divided nation.

But for multiple years they have basically just thrown money out the window.
    So stupid.

The other European elections appear to show mixed results but a strong anti-immigration stance.
Germany and the Netherlands Appear to reject the populist scare tactics and went with the more liberal parties pretty decisively. But again the old standard parties lost votes. France and Italy appear To have done the opposite of Germany and the Netherlands.

Something to take note of for the US and the democratic party. It might indicate Joe Biden would not defeat Donald Trump as decisively as a more left-leaning candidate. Each case is different but the trends are noted

In 2017, the last year for which figures are available, Poland issued more visas to foreign workers than any other country in Europe

Despite official warnings to stay away, foreigners have flocked to a booming economy. Most are Ukrainians, for whom the fact that Poland has a language and culture similar to their own is a bonus. Much smaller numbers of Belarussians, Moldavans, Indians, and Nepalis are also choosing to move to the country.

    This is bigger than immigration.
No doubt it is a part of the drive but the economics are just absolute stupidity.

So GB might become whiter and poorer, wonderful.
Maybe the US can accomplish the same thing.

The worse things get for us, the better for a charismatic authoritarian like Trump.

Social privation and the breakdown of democratic norms are suitable preconditions for the formation of a government of national salvation.
