What I'll also miss about TP is he was the ultimate Spurs fan litmus test. It was easy to figure out which fans were only really fans because someone on the team hablar espanol or they decided to bandwagon midstream ... and those fans who had been around for the lean years. I've never heard of a long-time Spurs fan hate TP -- but that was almost a prerequisite for New Age Spurs fans, tbh. You could do nothing but cherish the TP years after living through the point guard nightmares previously (for example, 95 year old Terry Porter starting at PG the previous season). When AJ was a high water mark of point guard play before the TP arrived, you know your franchise is one that was thirsting for good point guard play
    Guess I pass!

He made Gay Payton, the best point guard defender of all-time, look like Patty Mills. And this was the last play of Rod Strickland's career. He literally never played another minute in the NBA:

    so damn fast. Just fantastic.

Spurs wouldn't have won without Tony. He played hard. Fast and nimble and an amazing finisher. I loved watching him. Much respect to an all time great.
They won in 99 without him.

in the years we were an elite defense with a meh offense, dude was an instrumental source of easy buckets by being a one man fastbreak, finishing between 3 guys in the paint, etc

was always a great player, but for a ~2 year window was truly elite and would outplay CP3 heads up seemingly every time

Wrong time to retire or maybe he doesn't want an attention too much - if that's the case props to TP!

Gonna miss Parker in the league.

The official end of the golden age of the Spurs.

Great, amazing memories from all of those 3.

Charlotte Hornets can find a point guard; they can’t replace a magnificent scold

Congrats on an awesome career. Never understood the hate he received. Best PG in Spurs history.

say what you want, but what he's saying is true. Kawhi never tore a muscle and was out half a year longer

And spent a quarter of this season "managing his load" and is still dealing with leg and knee issues.

Kawhi is a supreme talent and obviously I wish he was still a Spur, but the concerns about his injuries being chronic were obviously not unfounded.

Tony had a right to question Kawhi at the time. Too bad today's superstars can't be talked to or questioned. The NBA is fun.
