For good reason. The past couple years have shown you can’t take a ‘sit and wait’ approach. It failed last year with kids that should be on UTs roster right now. We can sit back and play cool like everything is fine but the schools that are winning and putting kids into the NFL are doing it another way.

Obviously not sit and wait at this point if a kid likes us they do and if not so be it. Fairly certain we weren’t in a favorable position last June and all seemed to end pretty well.

I’m not trying to play Debbie downer but we were far better off this time last year. We had 11 guys committed and were leading for two 4-star kids that committed in early July. We have 7 right now and are rapidly losing any shot at getting any of the top guys we’re targeting. I see us as a top 8-12 class in Feb. This season will have very little impact on 2020 kids in my opinion. Most top kids already have a good idea of where they want to go by now. Most of those kids in top 50 have either taken/planned their OVs already or have already committed. Top 10 class is nice and we SHOULD clean up in state next year with the 21’ kids. I’m a pessimist though. Lol. The sky is falling and we are going to lose every recruit bc Bijan and Broughton told us no thanks.

This has got to be Blair, you sound just like him. Take a deep breath, Texas will sign a top 10 class. right now we are going after some great players and they are taking their time in making a decision. Sorry if Broughton and Ransom are leaning in a wrong direction, they are two out of 300 guys. It's not the end of the world. You can include Robinson in that group as well. We have filled our biggest need in the offensive line this year, we have huge momentum in the DFW area and we will still sign 23 guys and we will by happy with our class.

Take a close look at the Texas top 20 this year. UT will do better in that group than anyone else even without Broughton. With all this worry about the dline, one thing is sure, so far under Tom Herman I have yet to see Texas get pushed around by anyone. That tells me our coaches can not only recruit but develop our dline. Giles has put a ton of guys into the NFL and will continue to do so. If I had to chose between a Poona Ford and Dylon Mack, I'm taking Poona every time and so would all 30 NFL teams judging by his production.

If Broughton wants to follow in the steps of Dylon Mack that's on him, Charles O and Poona are much better examples of what Texas could have turned him into.

I'm going to wait for it all the playout but I sadly share some of Harvey's pessimism at the moment. Hopefully things will improve here.

Not quite. But I’m not going to paint a pretty picture for you if you can’t see how this is a bad thing. If you wanna stay positive and all that, do you. That’s called an optimist.

Per Rivals, WR LV Bunkley-Shelton of Gardena, CA will be visiting UT on July 26th.

That's probably the date of the annual night camp.

Why is the sky all of the sudden falling?

So, Bijan Robinson might be trending Ohio State because some players at a Rivals camp said that's what they thought he was leaning (an event with a few tOSU players, that might be the source on this one), as well as the fact that his teammate Ransom is leaning towards tOSU? InsideTexas mentioned earlier that they weren't as tight as some believed they would just because they are teammates. Mike Roach of 24/7 still thinks Texas has a good chance here.

Jase McClellan had a "secret visit" to Texas in March, and could still be open to Texas despite his OU commitment. He will definitely be back in Austin again.

Broughton isn't as slam-dunk as people assumed. Surprise, he's a top 100 players (probably a top 50 when it's all said and done). It's going to drag out with those kinds of players. Broughton has been notorious for loving all of his visits, let the "high" wear off the A&M visit before we start calling him an A&M commit.

Yes, Texas is going to lose out on Lathan Ransom. Probably the position where Texas is deepest. Unfortunate, but not too bad. If Texas were to miss on a top 100 player, I would probably prefer it'll be him. Not because he's a bad player, simply because that's not were Texas needs immediate help.

Texas could very well be back in front for Bryson Washington when he announces in about 10 days. There's a good looking safety, who's junior tape didn't become public until April. If people care so much about rankings, he's a guy I would expect to climb up the rankings.

It's been about three weeks since Ja'Quindon Jackson committed and blew the door open to the Dallas area. Texas landed Quaydarius Davis right after.
    #DallasToAustin is real.

Texas landed Kitan Crawford on Friday, arguably the top corner in-state and one of the most freakish athletes in this class.

Johnny Wilson just visited twice in a few weeks and will return for an OV later in the fall.

Add to that, Bryan Carrington still has two "shh" tweets unaccounted for, if I'm not mistaken.

Two straight top three classes as well as a current class ranked 2nd this year based on average player rankings (behind Clemson). I'm usually not a sunshine pumper, but things aren't looking as dark as some of you guys are making it to be.

His most recent Top 5 surprisingly didn't include LSU.

This one could come down to if Alabama wants him or not.

Suchomel from OrangeBloods mentioned today he feels DT Vernon Broughton is headed to A&M ahead of sitting down with his family.

If he does choose another school, it will be a result of that family meeting.

You know I hate to say this, but the same arguments used against us with Broughton were the same arguments Mack used against the aggsy back when RC was their coach. We won several big battles against the aggsy because RC was a 3-4 guy and Mack was a 4-3 guy. I'm not going to say we should switch because I like how our defense plays these passing schools in the Big 12, but if we keep our scheme we have to be ready for the consequences

What happens on the field is the best recruiting tool.

Somebody needs to explain probability to these kids in HS.
Between injuries, other kids improving and passing them up, girls, school, life...
Good luck with those first three rounds.

I know the stats show that an abundance that go in the first 3 rounds are 5 and 4 stars.
But what % labeled as such as HS Seniors without a senior season even started actually make it soundly to adulthood and a big beginning payday in the NFL.

But in the meantime recruiting is very interesting.

to be fair on mack, a lot of it was on him. he struggled constantly with his weight and really didn't come around until his final season. also, the type of d-line he had when he was a frosh was significantly different than the d-line he had as a senior. the d-line at a&m went from being its biggest weakness for the defense to its biggest strength.

I dare say that if Yancy McKnight was his S&C coach he wouldn't have had those weight problems. Yancy is one of the biggest assets this program has, he has worked wonders on guys like Poona Ford, Charles Omenihu, Ta'Quon Graham, and every olinemen in the program. Your dline coach is the same one you had under Sumlin? For all of Oscar Giles issues as a recruiter, he is a of a developer when it comes to his dline. These guys are tough as nails.

elijah robinson is the current interior d-line coach and he came on board in 2018 after one year at Baylor and three years at Temple. another contributor would be the strength and conditioning coach, jerry schmidt also came on board in '18. as fisher has often said, the entire culture of the program at a&m was in dire need of fixing. mack had this to say about his new coaches: http://baltimoretimes-online.com/new...n-and-disappo/
