I've lived in Texas my entire life, and basketball is popular in the larger metro areas.
in terms of free agency destinations, outside of LA/Boston/NY/Miami seems like every city in the league struggles to attract big name free agents. The Mavs problem is that Cuban overpaid middle-tier players to hold together a "compe ive, fringe playoff team" in Dirk's twilight years. And then the few times they had promising first round picks, Carlisle never developed them properly
Don’t forget the time Cuban didn’t overpay for a player that actually helped win them a championship. Then whiffed in free agency.

I mean as far as attracting free agents. I can understand San Antonio getting for free agents, but Dallas should be a coveted spot to land. I don't get why it's not more attractive than Houston or certainly Brooklyn.
