Outside of Utah, Denver and Portland--who are all sure to make the semis--I don't know who is going to make the playoffs in the West this season.

Didn't RC Buford meet with Iguodala a few off-seasons ago? If he is bought out, I'm hoping RC can get a look in since he made an effort to try and sign him a few off-seasons ago.

Beverley is staying with the Clippers. 3/40

I think that means Kawhi is going to the Lakers.

Or staying in Toronto... if he goes to the Lakers... the whole narrative that's been playing the last couple years was a fabrication

Hopefully they avoid the buyout market and just trade for him. Offer Memphis Beli/Bertans/? And see if they bite on wanting shooters. They already got the pick from GS so basically it would be Beli + Bertans + a great first round pick for using their trade exception and our guys are expiring too..

Clippers are still in the lead for Kawhi; I dont believe Kawhi wants to play with Bron or in that show of a circus - that hasn’t changed IMO.

TOR or Clippers but it’s been Clippers for a long time coming...we shall see.

The reason I said above about the Lakers and Raptors being the front runners is because I didn't think Kawhi would want to go to the Clippers anymore as there is no other stars of note left that they can pair him with. It also looks like both of those teams (Raptors and Lakers) would be the favourites if Kawhi signs with either of them since other Championship contenders like the Warriors (the prime example) have thinned out a bit.

Would you guys say the Clippers are a legit Championship contender with just Kawhi and no other big name free agent to pair him with? Would Kawhi want to go to the Clippers with that current roster and no other stars there? If so, props to him not joining the Lakers bandwagon. If he does go to the Clippers and he elevates them, then I guess he would make himself a truly legendary player. Don't get me wrong, I think the Clippers would still have a really good team, just don't know if they'd be better than either the Raptors or Lakers with Kawhi. I really hope he does go to the Clippers instead of the Lakers if he does want to go to LA, though.

I think Kawhi is more of the Jimmy Butler mold where he doesn’t want all these other stars around him. Look at TOR, no other stars like a Bron. If he wanted that, he would have committed to Clips and they would have gotten him one.

Or he would already have chosen LA.

Fact is, Clippers were a playoff team last year with their no-star team. Just adding Kawhi to that alone makes them really, really good. Prob the favorites in the West at least.

Lakers with AD/Bron/Kuz are ok, but they have a TON of work to do still and wouldn’t have a Kawhi-like player they added either.

Personally, I think this version of nephew CAN carry a team on his back on his own. But he’s definitely gonna need another tier 1 star to carry the burden while he’s dealing with injuries(he will be dealing with them, it’s a given plus load management) or maybe 2 other tier 2 or tier 3 stars. If they can carry the team for stretches while he’s doing that, he can let loose for the games that matter aka POs. I think last year’s clipper team would be fine if he’s the sole star. They played hard and played smart. Goes without saying nephew has to be playing the way he did during the POs.

Kawhi is not going to the Lakers, that spin is all coming from pro Laker media. He is either signing a short deal in Toronto or going to the Clips. Nobody outside of Davis wants to play with an aging, grossly overrated Lebron.

A little surprised Dallas is keeping that powder dry - really thought they’d land someone with all that money but all the bigger fish seem to be gone. They got Kristaps and Powell under contract but not using their cap space or whiffing badly is curious

Lakers with AD/Bron/Kuz are ok, but they have a TON of work to do still and wouldn’t have a Kawhi-like player they added either.
I'm also thinking of it from the Kawhi load management standpoint. If Kawhi was able to play the whole season at a high level, then yes, I definitely think the Clippers with their current roster would be great with Kawhi, but I just didn't think they would be the favourites for the Championship without adding another tier 1 star or two tier 2 stars to help keep their record afloat if Kawhi is dealing with injury management throughout the season.

I think the main reason the Raptors won the Championship last season is because they had home court in the playoffs against every team except the Bucks. I think the Clippers would need to finish with that type of record to have a chance to get to the finals, so they need a strong enough team to be able to withstand "load management" if that is required from Kawhi during the season. Before last season's playoffs started, I looked at the standings to see if the Raptors would have home court against the Warriors if they made the finals, and once I saw they did, I thought if Kawhi is healthy and plays at his top level, they'd have a chance to beat them with home court. I don't really know for sure, though, since all the Warriors injuries made it too hard to say if the Raptors really could have beaten them if they were healthy. Raptors did have some injuries of their own too as I thought OG would have played a role in helping guard the Warriors players if they were at full strength. I would have liked to have seen how it would have turned out if both teams were at full strength. Plus, we don't know how hobbled Kawhi was, that's another factor that could have played a part.

Like I said above, if the Raptors couldn't withstand Kawhi's load management throughout the season and finished with the second best record in the NBA, I'm not sure if they would have made the finals without home court. I could be wrong, but I think that played a big part in it. I agree with what you said about him being able to carry a team on his own back at his current level, but if he has to load manage, can the Clippers maintain a top record throughout the season to have home court in the playoffs.

Anyway, I hope he chooses the Raptors or Clippers.
