Come on Fabbs, quality of teammates had nothing to with it. He would've been perfectly happy if had been traded to LA and they had a mediocre season. Going to TOR and winning a le was never in the plans or a priority, they kind of just stumbled onto it.

It's not a terrible move by Kwa if he makes it Lakers. Im sure the marketing possibilities with Laker Cult will have his earning be great.
I'd like to see him sign a one year deal with Toronto and see if they can repeat. Nice team. Probably won't happen. But too many Kwa Haters thinking he if doesn't sign for 5 years in Toronto he is an ass. Not so.

Also why do dumb franchises like the Wizards facilitate like this? All they got for their help was a few spares and a 2nd rounder. You'd think non-marquee franchises like them would fight to maintain parity instead of bending over for the big markets smh.

Some of us (myself included) are of the belief all kinds of *sharing* goes on between owners, including and foremost profits. The Kwame Brown for MVPau Gasol had all kinds scam written all over it.
That trade stunk to high heaven. It's the first time like I felt the League was rigged. And as I recall, Pop has had some very negative comments about that whole ordeal and led to his dislike of the Lakers and how they get away with shenanigans. In fact, I would bet that trade has a lot to do with his refusal to deal with them. Cheap and easy is not the Spurs way. The Spurs and PATFO do it through high BBIQ and scouting their butts off and player development
I might think of Kawhi a smidge differently if he doesn't go to the Lakers and goes to the Clippers.

I don’t really care what he does anymore. He’s not a Spur so it’s not important. In saying that though I could appreciate him on the Raptors and getting the job done, but the combination of a franchise spur walking out to the Lakers and another group of stars looking to cut corners and follow the path of least resistance to les gives me no choice but to actively root against them, hopefully the anti-compe or LeBron will finally break down this season. He’s just about due.

Windhorst states without a caveat that Leonard was offered the $220MM supermax and declined it. If he goes to the Lakers, he declines $190MM supermax from Toronto and takes $140MM for four years in guaranteed money. $80MM in guaranteed gross salary would be turned down. $35MM in real net cash after taxes.
