It seemed like they let Lonnie play in the second half with the condition that he dial it back.
The guy was a pretty solid shooter In School and this off season he actually trained with the guy who Steph Curry uses, not Chip.
Chip is great but it isn't fair to automatically discount the work the players put in or automatically assume Chip did anything to the players shot. Sometimes Chip doesn't mess with the players shot because he thinks their form is already good.
It seemed like they let Lonnie play in the second half with the condition that he dial it back.
So... a coach of some kind.
Not so much dial it back, but expand his game to the other players.
And it was difficult for him. It's cool.
This is his journey.
Them being there has zero zero bearing on Lonnie walker.
It's wild to me that Thomas Robinson was a lottery pick and now he routinely getting outplayed by Eubanks...
Eubanks defense was better this game so I think he is on his way to solidifying the 4th big spot...
So you're saying he worked with a shooting coach, and didn't do it all by himself. You just get pissed when Chip or Pop get credit for things. Okay.
I don't know what to make of it, but he reminds to Carmelo when he was younger - inside out dribbles, hesitations, footwork.
Like 3 pages of bickering back and forth about whether improved shooting was all the player or the coach.....who cares
Youre talking to the same guy who said Kawhi was a good shooter in college when he shot something like 20% from 3. For some reason he has a vendetta against Chip. Kinda weird.
#5 pick by Sacramento Kings. Tells you everything you need to know about their player development.
Guy coming out of college need a system to improve and refine their game. You can have talent, but if you can't improve then this is what happens.
I'm not pissed at anything. Lol
I'm saying that as bad as the Duncan2k5 poster is he has a point on a lot of folks on here short change the players hard work. It's a few people in this very thread that said Kawhi is nothing without the Spurs coaching staff. I think that is a very simple way at looking at things. Anyway, Lonnie was a solid NCAA 3 point % shooter and his form looked good in school.
Chip admittedly doesn't tinker with every players shot, just guys who needs the help. This guy's shot wasn't broken and he worked with the one coach in the off season to help with ball handling and shooting off the dribble as well as the Spurs coaches.
Of course coaching helps the players I stated that in other post in this very thread but It seems instead of reading my post you got offended. Lmao.
Players need coaches. Players put in the work of course or they will not improve, but they need to be coached. All of them.
This Is coming from the coaches mouth. " You can teach but they have to put the work behind it." Chip is giving credit where credit Is due. There are many players that he and many other coaches try to help but ultimately it comes down to the player.
wow really. You really opened my eyes. I thought the shooting coach has to only coach them and then they learn how to shoot by playing playstation
Lonnie looks to be real the deal. I think there's a good chance Pop has him carrying Bryn's bags next season.
To be fair Kansas players are almost always complete . They are free range chickens on the court and don't get taught much. Busts way more than not. In fact, Marcus Morris is one of the few decent KU players in the last two decades.
The coach really has nothing to do with it. As long as they work hard, it doesn't matter what they work on or how. So I don't see any reason why putting in the hours on Playtation wouldn't be just as good.
l was there -- no limp at the end (just a couple of bad passes).
Very witty.
I appreciate the conversation on how many on this site do try to down play the hard work these players put in. Lol.
Maybe a result of private mentoring from Mr. Tendinopathy Leanord?
No one is dismissing the player's hard work. Its more along the lines of showing acknowledgement that the Spurs coaching gave guidance to players who would have rather became different type of players if they werent taught the right way to play basketball. Hard work might be put in, thats not to be denied. But that path could have made Kawhi or anybody to a road where they didnt become an all world shooter or all world defender. Its this that needs to be acknowledged. Kawhi has even given credit to Chip after he won his Raptors championship. Why give credit to chip if he feels he could have done it without him? Its hand in hand.
People here gave Kawhi all kinds of credit for being a gym rat. Keldon Johnson is a gym rat, which is just another thing in his favor.
When it comes to shooting, you can't fix your own jump shot. Brandon Clarke's jump shot was a horror show when he came to San Jose State. He worked his ass off trying to fix it on his own, and probably made things worse. When he got to Zaga, he went to work with a good shooting coach and made huge improvements - and yes, he put in a lot of hard work. But his hard work without a good shooting coach wasn't the answer.Shooting is one of those things where practicing a lot can actually make you worse, if you're practicing bad mechanics. D-Robinson-50-Fan obviously hasn't seen that on Reddit anywhere.
There's a reason why golfers have swing coaches, and baseball players have batting coaches. And there are a few of those guys at the top who consistently get the best results from the guys who work with them. Shooting coaches are the same, and Chip is one of those few at the top of the game. But nobody thinks he waves a magic wand, and the player doesn't have to work at it.
Don't be silly, my guy... Ur comparing a couple summer league games to his college career? U act like Lonnie was a jumpshooter... And why how do players on other teams get good jumpers? Why doesn't ALL spurs players get great jumpers, since someone said chip has "magic"... Hmmm... Could it be that any decent shooting coach could hone the skills of a player that could already shoot? Could it be that it's mostly the work ethic of the player? DeRozan shot like from three this year... Something tells me it's more about player than the shooting coach... Which is my point... Give players credit FIRST... then the staff... Y'all sound like the idiots who say Duncan won because of Pop
See what I mean? As if San Antonio is the only place players can grow... Giannis was drafted 15th...Jokic was drafted in the second round... Give players credit
