I agree. Green is familiar with the team and fits better there. Sometimes it’s not all about the money.
Just curious, is/was there any talk about Love coming here? Your post is the first one I’ve seen about it
If we assume that every single one of them reaches their absolute ceiling, it's fair to say Walker would end up being the best of the bunch. Still, you can't just base everything on that or else guys like Anthony Randolph would be way overvalued since his ceiling was a GOAT level player.
This is the type of stuff that is prevalent on this site. Manu came here at what, age 26? Was he near his ceiling his sop re year just because he was older? I've never seen so many fans downplay one player just to prop up a younger, inferior player.
Also, let's stop acting like White doesn't have a great set of physical tools himself. His combine results were elite and he's a big PG with a 6-8 wingspan. Not to mention he's light years ahead of the other two when it comes to both offensive and defensive IQ/awareness.
Most players peak at 28 and sustain those prime years for about 3 years. So White will get better and so will the young players. Anyone's guess if any of them hit on something more than a rotation player. Without Demar and LMA on the team, all those guys would play us into the lottery.
Might have been Carroll VS Green
You're not wrong but you could have said the same thing about players like George Hill, Kawhi, and Tony Parker. Maybe even Manu. The Spurs are the best in the legue at developing players.
I'd pick White as the best of the three right now in terms of ceiling. He already understands things about the game most players never get. Walker looks terrific, but he may never get many of those nuances.
I agree the Spurs are the best, but it takes year to take a raw talent and turn them into an all-star. Kawhi wasn't an all-star for several years and same with Tony. We are all excited about the young guys, but right now none of them are enough to get the Spurs to the playoffs without DD and LMA. Hopefully they will be good enough in the next few years, but right now they are not. Once in decades a star comes into the league good enough to transform it, a la Tim Duncan, but most do not.
Bradley Beal and Robert Covington are the only two somewhat possible gets that would seriously improve this team. Any other move I'm not really interested on.
We need someone that plays off ball otherwise we will have way too many players demanding the ball
No, just someone earlier doing a hypothetical trade. I have not heard nor seen a thing about the Spurs trying to bring in Kevin Love.
Beal would be awesome.
Gotcha, that’s what I thought happened but I looked and couldn’t find it. Thanks for the clarification.
he would, he would also take a very large chunk of the spurs young players and future picks. He’s a good player but the cost imo would be too much.
Only way Beal makes sense is if you can get him for DDR + picks (don't know that DDR fits into Wiz plans as it sounds like Wizards are looking more for picks/young pieces so can't see happening)
If DDR not in deal then as you said would most likely cost a minimum of 2 of our top prospects + picks, Spurs are in a pretty good position regard to the future and I don't think you mortgage that especially when you would still be relying on DDR/LMA to consistently deliver in the Playoffs
Neither the Spurs nor the Celtics have made any official moves since yesterday. Marcus Morris, Enes Kanter not officially signed, FWIW.
Not super strange but leaves the door open that a sign-and-trade could be in the works.
Fixed.
if morrris originally agreed to a 1+1, its probably going to take a good amount more per year to lock him into 3 years, or even a 2+1. only took an additional mil per year to lock up carroll, but he's (soon to be) 33 and his value after 2 years wasn't going to be significant anyway. getting morris to sign on for 3 wont be as easy
Does a sign and trade free any mid level money?
Yes. That would be the point. They would still have the MLE available if they do a S&T for MM.
And who is available that the spurs would use the MLE on right now? Basically Oubre? All good free agents are gone and nobody else is worthy of the MLE amount
