They need another body to throw at the wings in the West. Lyles isn't that, disappointing tbh.

    Beyond their control.

This is going to make the front office separate themselves even more from Players with questionable at udes. They took a chance and this is what happened, I don't see them taking another chance for a long time.
    The Spurs Way.

I am ing proud about the way PATFO handled this.

Yeah, Carroll's third year is only $1.4 or $1.5 million guaranteed. No big deal, tbh.
Yeah, the Spurs have like $15MM guaranteed on the books as of now for the summer of 2021. Not going to get in the way of creating cap room to sign 3 max players or whatever in theory.

so far, all i've heard on lyles' deal is that it's two years. if it's the minimum, then i'm okay with how this all turned out.

    https://www.spurstalk.com/trey-lyles...morris-plan-b/

The Lyles of two years ago put up the same per-possessions stats as Morris did last season.

Lyles couldn't hit a shot last year but the potential is there for him to eventually be better than Morris. Though, obviously, the 2019-20 Spurs take a hit with this news.
the obvious differential and the hardness and versatility of Morris, Lyles does not have that.

Doesn't look like there's an issue with Rich Paul, FWIW.

How's his defense? I wouldn't be surprised if the Spurs can help Lyles get back on track offensively, but honestly what I was most excited about with Morris was his defense. The ability to throw two big bodied combo forwards, who are solid defenders, at guys like Nephew, PG, LeBron, Giannis was really ing exciting, tbh.

Yea. Something like $1-2M I read. But whats the cap hold for that year? I think the full $7M that year. Eats possible important cao space in a really pivotal year for the Spurs. Hope Carroll can playout the contract with benefit to the Spurs.
Just renounce him and it's down to the amount owed.

    Really not a big deal.

Yeah, that's gone. Having Murray back and Carrol will help, but the rest will be up to Pop's scheme tbh.

Basically. Even with full amount of hold the Spurs only have $20MM against the cap as of now for the 2021-22 season.

Lyles is much more of a bouncy interior defender who can't defend out on the perimeter very well (you're not going to put him on one of those big wings). Morris can defend both forward spots pretty well but obviously doesn't provide any rim protection.

RPM believes Lyles is the much better defender .... but for what the Spurs need and the teams they need to go through, I'd much rather have Morris ... obviously.

HE got traded for Donovan Mitc on draft day. Denver actually wanted him but he regressed last year.
