Forbes upped his game in the playoffs. If he plays like that consistently, that’s nice improvement in my book. I don’t really buy the “peak” argument most of the time. Good players who have careers more than a few years long benefit from their experience. They learn, improve judgment and recognition and become more confident/consistent. I think Forbes can do that.
Meh he has several playoff series wins and even made an ECF. Before nephew came along that was literally the best that franchise had ever done.
I agree tho that I don’t want him on the Spurs however I don’t know who we could realistically trade him for to make us better. We do need some veterans on the team and he’s a great teammate by all accounts.
Playing in a talent deprived Eastern Conference. No coincidence that all these accolades dried up in his first season in the West last year. No all-star consideration, no all-nba. Which is why I find it funny that we have some posters in this thread talking about how we have a shot at the le because we have two all-stars. Technically, only one all-star and LMA just barely made it in. Derozan wasn't even close to consideration. We had no ALL-NBA players either. When's the last time a team won a le without a single All-NBA player on the roster?
Dumbmar’s advances stats are poor, and he fails my eye test. Plenty of those types have made all-star games, though, while Manu and Tony made very few. You and I just have different ideas about what we want for Spurs players.
DDR was actually a lot better here than I expected. Shot over 50 % in the playoffs, was our best perimeter defender outside of White, and his rebounding and assists were career highs, I think?
There is absolutely no way in the spurs trade Demar for porter jr without the bulls throwing in several more assets along with him. Spurs traded Kawhi for this guy, I think they’re prepared to sink or swim with Demar as one of their best players
I was pleasantly wrong about Forbes last season. He played much better than I ever expected him to and makes Mills beyond expendable. But he’s too small and too slow to really improve dramatically. All he can really do offensively is ball fake when a guy is closing out on him and shoot a floater. He can’t get by anybody one on one and he can’t take it to the hole consistently and never really will be able to.
where he can improve though is stop jumping when passing the ball!!! Literally taught in middle school not to do that and he always does that. The ball goes slower bc you can’t put your full strength into it and the angle is easier to steal bc defenders know that you can’t land with it so it’s akin to having a big neon sign saying “hey I’m going to pass the ball.”
I am afraid you are right. I was hoping his un-Spurs-like tantrums would inspire Pop to trade him, but now I doubt it.
He has to improve on D. He must eliminate his dumb fouls, which I think he can. My hope is that somehow Pop realizes he makes Mills more than expendable.
Its why I’m so pissed at Marcus Morris tbh. It would’ve forced Pop to bench Mills. Carrol, Gay, Morris all at small ball 4 or just straight up SF. LMA and Poetl the bigs. Dejounte and White the point guards with DDR and Lonnie/Forbes the back up 2 and Marco getting traded bc he wants playing time. It was the dream scenario where there’s no room for Mills.
Now I expect to see the same ty Marco and Mills pairing![]()
I think Marcus made us contenders. That deal hurt. But I hadn’t thought it had the ripple effect down to Patty. Maybe so. But I don’t think Pop will ever bench Patty. I think Pop would look to trade him to a non- ty team where he could get minutes. I just want his salary freed up.
Wasn’t even close? Now you’re just pouring it on to make your point. This statement is far from true. If DeRozan didn’t have that bad month of January he would have been able to make the all star team.
Yeah, DeMar kept this team from being complete dog .
Spurs are gonna ball this year.
DeRozan is exactly the type of player Spurs fans used to clown (empty stats, no impact). Now they're ride or die with this clown. You hate to see it
i've never, ever posted about otto porter before so your post has nothing to do with me
with that being said... the demar achievements you listed really aren't anything special tbh. the one that sticks out the most is 4 time all star... from a weak ass eastern conference nonetheless.
Toronto Raptors Fan Boy needs to GTFO.
F Trump and F the GOP...Cool tag line. You still in HS right...
Yup, it's embarrassing to see how low this fanbase has sunk. Absolute hypocrisy to criticize players like Kobe and Westbrook all those years but jump through hoops to defend a similar cancer in Derozan. Shot 1-10 in a crucial game 7 taking stupid ass Kobe shots against a group of playoff virgins. Worst On-Off in the entire playoffs.
"But he's a good player guys! The box score numbers told me so."
Beal just posted 25, 5, 5 and 1.5 spg last season while also having a career 49/38/80 shooting splits.
If your arguing that DDR is better simply because he's played on better teams, that's silly. Beal is a better player already and is 4 years younger. His shooting already makes him a better fit on teams than DDR is.
If Beal were swapped for DDR in a hypothetical trade Spurs would be significantly better with him than DeRozan.
Same here. Most unwatchable Spur team since the lottery squad in 1997. IIRC, Kori expressed similar sentiments, as did many other regulars on ST. It's no coincidence that a lot of that ugly ball coincides with Derozan's arrival to the team. I'm not surprised that PATFO are hesitant about an extension.
If the right offer comes along, they will deal him.
But it won't.
than White? no way
And the answer is not Porter.
I enjoyed watching DD. I like his offensive game. Once I stopped comparing him to Leonard, it was easy to just enjoy his game. Mills and Beli was hard to watch on D though.
