That's like saying that Pop should just get out on the court...if he can coach, he should be able to play, right?
Just because Becky couldn't physically compete with a lot of the guys in the NBA doesn't mean she doesn't know the game better than they do. She has competed at the top of her own level physically.
Prime Lisa Leslie, Candice Wiggins, Candice Parker, Skylar Diggins? And those 4 are all straight and not gay... and could have competed at the NBA level. And then you have a lot more that are gay that could definitely compete.
So you're saying that until the game goes completely co-ed, a woman should not be able to coach men? There are plenty of men who coach women's teams...should that be banned too?
Just because you can cite a few examples of women who may have been able to compete in the NBA (hint: they still would've gotten beaten up by the bigger, stronger players) doesn't mean that women can physically compete at the same level as men. That's not sexism, it's basic physiology. That's why basically every professional sport is separated by gender. But once again, that is due to physical limitations, and has nothing to do with their knowledge or experience of the sport.
Also, what does being gay have to do it? You are already starting on a prejudice stance, bringing that into the equation isn't helping your argument.
Because Pro Sports is a group of Alpha Males with massive Ego's, that make insane amounts of money. A woman is always going to have a hard time with the locker room, and dealing with the Ego's of Pro Athletes. Yeah it is sexist but can you imagine a Female HC in the NFL screaming at a player coming off the field? I can't. Won't work.. They simply won't want to hear it..
I'd argue that's a problem that needs fixing, and it isn't going to get fixed if people just assume it can't.
"Welp, that's just the way it is" isn't a good reason to restrict change or progress.
Why does it need to be fixed? Why do women need to coach Male Pro Athletes? I doubt there are too many women lining up to be in that spot. Again massive Ego's, the athletes make tons of money. You have No Job Security.
Paraphrasing Pop here, but if you are ignoring half of the population just because they don't have a , then you are ignoring the opportunity at new ideas and ways of thinking, and that's not a good thing.
30 years ago, nobody in the NBA wanted to scout guys overseas because they were considered soft and underskilled...how did that work out?
I know a lot of people don't like the WNBA but let's be honest...they play fundamentally better basketball, mostly because they have to. They don't have athletes that can just jump out the gym or bowl people over.
I'm not saying that anybody should be hired just because they are a woman, or that every team needs girls on the benches just for the sake of equality. But if they have the ability, experience, and credentials that Becky has, I think she is more than qualified to coach basketball at the highest level, and if guys are threatened by that then they need to learn to get the over it.
Frankly, she has accomplished more in her career than most of our roster.
The problem is that is exactly what will happen. Maybe not in her case, but in many others. Becky might do well. But the league will look to hire other less qualified women over men. PC Agenda.. We already have Silver saying they need Female Coaches and more Females Refs, etc. He is spelling it out for you. They will hire them because they are women. It's a PC agenda designed to include them. Why do you think Hollywood is making dog movies like the Ghostbusters Reboot in 2016, and putting women in all these Superhero parts over men? Because they have this corporate PC agenda. They are even talking about a Female James Bond which nobody is asking for. But watch them try it..

He is telling you right there, that Women will be hired. So as a man you may be vastly more qualified to Ref in the NBA. But he just made it clear, we need Women Refs..
