nope... in this system there's a pecking order. Everyone who comes here knows that. Guaranteed. Players talk. That's why the Lyles to the starting lineup should have been a huge deal. That is really unlike Pop. What love for one of these reporters to ask a question like, " what kind of things does Trey add to the starting lineup?"
equating guys like Mills and Beli to stars where you have to coddle them. Absolutely not. You can and should rip into them and bench them if they are sucking it up. They have done nothing to deserve exempt status and in fact that is a major problem if you think they do.

So honest question. If a vet like Beli is making the same or worse mistakes as Lonnie, isnt that MORE alarming that he has never figured it out? At least Lonnie can improve with time and confidence. Beli cannot.
It's not accurate to say Beli's NEVER figured it out, tbh but yes, he is no longer much of an asset to this team.

Really? It’s not? I’m not talking about the past. Past does not matter when accounting for play right now. As of this season, Beli has made the same and worse mistakes than Lonnie. But there is little hope of him improving.

unfortunately the "culture" is in "exempt" status apparently. Doesn't matter what I think though. This is the way Pop's been coaching for like 22 years. Every year he does this same stuff to everyone's surprise. I'm not worried at this point he usually does what' best for the team when he has to. He experiments early in the season.

Yeah, I’m not worried per say just calling out some bogus stuff. Pop is still a great coach, but he has his flaws. While he and the Spurs are great at developing talent, he also lags behind many others at when they are ready. It’s chicken in the egg.

It’s not always the young talent breaking out because of the best development; they were usually ready before they got their chance.

Then the sticking to the negative low ceiling guys like Mills/Beli is another flaw. You can be a great coach and have flaws.

Yeah, I was referring to the past. I see where you're coming from and I understand the frustration. Still, tonight showed me and others that Lonnie wasn't ready tonight. Beli was just as ty too but at least we know he can always get hot in long range so Pop was more willing to bank on that than Lonnie's raw athleticism. That's just how Pop operates. I'd rather Carroll took both their minutes tonight honestly but I hope Lonnie takes all of Marco's minutes tomorrow. He just isn't ready yet for a marquee matchup like tonight. In an ideal world, we don't have Marco on this team anymore.

That’s fine and I agree; he’s still a better option than Beli though.

I agree... he's loyal to his guys to a fault sometimes. It's just a coach going to the players he trusts when it's black and white. Players have to take their spots. He's not going to just give that to anybody. That's just the way he is.

On a side note, I'd give it till the minutes restriction increases with the DJ & White lineup. If he doesn't play them together once the minutes will have to overlap then I'd start to worry if he's lost his marbles.

It might seem way too premature to worry about anything at this point, including Carroll not getting any playing time...but he was supposed to be our one big signing and he's old. There has to be more to this story than we know. He has been known to have a solid BBIQ so I can't believe he is completely befuddled by the system and looks completely ty in practices.

You can’t be a coach that cares about defense and gets on the team about it but then play DeRozan/Beli/Mills together. You just can’t. You are either serious about defense are you aren’t.

I get trying to have some balance, but at some point you have to give the defense a shot at succeeding. It’s not been awful overall, but could be so much better. But Pop has a fear of the offense falling off too much if he goes that route.

Which is odd, because Beli is giving nothing on offense anyways so what are you losing there?

It’s so demoralizing watching DeRozan get owned by Kawhi. It really is. That game vs TOR last year where DeRozan lie helpless at mid court after Kawhi owned him.

Saw it the same today. Just sad man.

    my takeaways

    - the Spurs had a chance to win despite LMA totally disappearing while Kawhi dominated ...
    - these limited minutes for our young guys suck ... not playing White 30 minutes is nuts, he was hot from three and should have played alongside Murray in the 4th
    - props to the Clippers for taking away two of our biggest strengths this season ... fastbreaks and offensive rebounds
    - against well coached disciplined teams Murray still has a tough time to score ... against the Warriors he would have a field day but we will never know
    - Lonnie played and as everybody here agrees was not worse than Belli on the court

Agreed. Can't stand Beverly. He gets away with fouling half of the time. He's midget Draymond Green for the Clippers without the passing abilities.
I appreciate Beverlys throw back style, but all the extra antics are frustrating to watch. But now that Kawhi is on the Clippers and they are darling contenders, he is going to have a really, REALLY long leash from the refs, ala Draymond.

I disagree. It’s why I called him out in the post game.

What an ass hat Pop has become.

I hope Lonnie plays 30 minutes next game, which is against a worse than G-league lineup.
So we'll get done with this nonsense. Or maybe not, there will still be people here thinking he is ready.

ing Pop... Guess Lonnie can kiss his minutes goodbye.

Although I believe Popovich is overrated, he is arguably the goat, but at this point he has completely lost his ability, when you have Mills and Marco on the court playing so many minutes, you have no right to call any player that way, especially for defensive tasks.

Total ownage. I think Leonard could have stolen DeRozan's ball at will.

The Spurs offense never got on track because DeRozan was trying to make it a one-one-one battle from the tip.
    Pathetic.
DeRozan is Durant-esque in the emo, but without Durant's talent or physical ability.
