It’s kinda comical when you think about it. Historically, the Congress has acted as a check on executive power. Throw a dart at any random Federalist and you’ll see some concern about power consolidating in the executive and the need to have the other branches check that.

A not guilty vote is essentially a ratification of the executive having the power to use the powers of office for his own (political) gain. That’s a pretty drastic departure from the original cons utional design. Question is whether that departure was inevitable.

We had the British and the French both trying to influence us and our silly voting as well. Its bigger than just the branches of government exerting their own type of control. Its frkn outrageous. Even Trump's own ambassadorial choices, who gave to his campaign, are dumbfounded.

The people listening in on that call had to have blood just drain from their body if they understood. Somebody needed to grab the phone and throw it at Trump and explain it to him immediately. Then the orange guy finds out what an fup it is, and thinks he can just admit it and all is fine. This sets a huge precedence for how an in bent or possibly even candidates can get an huge advantage in an election. Go ask the foreign countries for money and background info. Let them get their intelligence services firmly involved in our elections.
