As we watch the Spurs decompose into Knicks West, we at least can take solace in the fact that this is all Kawhi Leonard’s fault. He totally screwed the franchise over. This is proven by seeing just how badly the Raptors are struggling this year following their losing him to free agency. I mean, if they were like 10-4 with a bunch of blossoming young talent, it might suggest that the Spurs’ struggle reflect something else, such as sclerotic, past-its-prime organizational leadership finally seeing all the player transaction, draft, and developmental failures of the past half-decade catch up to it.

But since the Raptors suck too, we know that’s not it. The Spurs are surely in good hands. This rough stretch is Kawhi Leonard’s fault. And Marcus Morris’s fault. And that the league just takes way too many 3’s and there’s no beauty to it anymore. And Lonnie Walker’s not being over himself. And Donald Trump. How can you possibly be concerned about the Spurs’ vanilla, intermittent-effort veterans, shaky young players, and replacement-level pet players with eight-figure contracts during this time in America’s history? It’s just basketball. Really, why should anyone anywhere be held accountable for poor job performance in the entertainment industry? It’s just whatever kind of entertainment it is.

People should just be able to rest on the laurels from accomplishments that happened a long tine ago and retire on their own terms whenever they feel like it. Everyone else should look at themselves and their role in their failure, except those in charge, because who are you to question them? What have you ever won?

And if you choose to question them anyway, good luck maintaining your livelihood when they take your access away.

Thank God the Raptors suck too. Or else we might have to admit that the fish rots from the head.

Indeed, OP, you have concisely elucidated in a pithy utterance the operative amalgamation of process and results. I'll drink to that. A lot.

Yup. Spurs would be struggling right now even with Leonard. Can you imagine the drama around here with the team playing the way they are while super-maxed Kawhi misses games left and right with his load management ? Good riddance. Overrated at this point, tbh.

Where’s that sniffer exstatic with his “Raptors are in worst shape post Kawhi than the Spurs are,” take?

I thought they would be too. I am surprised Siakam has made this big of a leap, OG looked like a bust but is now showing signs of solid play and Gasol/Lowry still making an impact. I thought they would really struggle.

The Raptors have been a great regular season team for many years now. They are going to miss having a closer in the playoffs. They will lose if they have to face Boston, Philly, or Milwaukee.

true...but thats how teams build for the future...put players on the court that compliment each other...establish a focal point (siakam right now)...and either wait for a closer in free agency, trades, or the draft...we on the other hand do the complete opposite...we get ppl who dont compliment each other...dont play our young assets, dont make trades...and throw up our hands at the cards we have been dealt as if we arent the dealer

Well that's what happens when there are no checks and balances in an organization. When 1 man's word runs , who is he to answer to? Does anyone really believe everything doesn't go through popovich at this point? Can you imagine a board room meeting with 7 or more people all deciding to put $100 million into Gasol and Mills?

this is a really interesting observation in that it has BEEN the spurs way for decades but the club has begun the transition away from this style already, which will become even more transparent when they move LMA/ddr and pop hands over the clipboard after the season

The Raptors have a competent front office and coaching staff, their undrafted free agents are very capable players and their 1st round picks have blossomed.
