Just because it’s never too soon to start.

mcdaniels or the tank is a bust
Need Wiseman.
probably an athletic guard who can't shoot 3s
This doesn’t look like the year to have a top pick. The top of draft is weak. No luka’s or young’s. Wiseman is meh...doubt he’s as good as Ayton. The value picks are from 7-15 ish. Would rather have 2 picks in this range than 1 top 4 pick this year.
BALL played crazy good a couple of days ago in Australia. Has really grown into the pro league well. Kid can play. Things that jumped out : SEES the floor, Attacks, Can finish around and Over big bodies, Dishes, 3ball, Tempo, Can stay in front of man.
I think there are a lot of wing players in draft. If Spurs miss the playoffs they may legitimately luck out and draft a quality 3d wing to play alongside dejounte and lonnie. Jaden McDaniels has to be near the top of consideration.
minkes we get the top 2 picks he will be untouchable
Too bad this draft is the weakest in years
The problem is that if Ball ever became a star here that his father would make sure he ends up in LA. I'm wary of drafting guys who grew up in southern California since they are always obsessed with going back ala #2, Paul George, etc.
From that list McDaniels looks like a good prospect.
The dude from Top Gun looks pretty good
Facts!!
I vote for Anthony Bennett . Heard he is legit
I watched LaMelo Ball play recently ... and he's legitimately in the running for No. 1 pick. I mean, he doesn't seem like Spurs material but the guy is oozing talent. Legit 6-foot-7 point guard who is a scorer, playmaker and even rebounder. If he can shoot straight and not let Dad derail his career, LaMelo can be damn good.
As big and athletic as Wiseman is, are centers even valuable enough to draft No. 1 overall? I'm not sure that they are anymore. I'd need to see some shooting or playmaking from Wiseman first, tbh.
cole anthony from unc will be the pick no doubt in my mind.......
Mentioned this in another thread, but one advantage in getting back a 2020 draft pick for one of DeRozan, Gay, Aldridge, or--maybe--Forbes, is to pair it with the Spurs lottery pick and move into top 3. Hypotheticals like 7 + 22 to move up to 3. Spurs would also have White or Murray to introduce into negotiations if they wanted to make a hard play at top of draft.
Sadly the Spurs have no position where they are set and a pick would be redundant with existing talent. Before this season I would have hoped they were set at PG and SG but Murray and White so far have proven to be no difference makers that couldn’t be replaced without much trouble. I guess the good news is the Spurs can pick the best talent available and it would be the right call.
Yeah, unless it's a "unicorn" type with superstar potential (Davis, Towns, Jokic, Embiid), all things being relatively equal, I'd have a hard time picking a big at or near the top of a draft over a high level shot creating perimeter type in this era.
Good role playing bigs aren't difficult to find. What this franchise needs more than anything, is a dynamic offensive engine to build around. Murray and White aren't it and Walker probably isn't either. Get that and then they can start figuring everything else out.
get a lottery pick, only to be buried on the bench behind wombat, belli? lol spurms patfo
Y’all can quit speculating, I’ve seen the 2020 Draft Blackboard and the Spurs are locked in on a
5’5” Power Forward from Albania who can’t rebound, doesn’t shoot 3’s, plays matador defense,
is under 50% on his free throws, doesn’t hustle back on missed shots and commits stupid fouls.
However he strongly believes in “ team culture “ and getting drunk on rare vintage wines and has
aspirations of becoming the Coach’s pet player and being one uva of towel swinging, bench cheering, loyalty contract seeking SOB.
Well said. Agree on all points
That's why on my way-too-early board I'd have Ball, Edwards and Anthony above Wiseman.
Wiseman being another Deandre Ayton isn't enough to draft him No. 1. And he doesn't yet even look as good as Ayton.
Porzingis/Ayton is the inflection point for me. The ceiling is probably an Aldridge caliber player (perennial All-Star/All-NBA contender, but not MVP caliber).
Super role players types (Adebayo, Jackson Jr.) are now often fetishized over the more featured types (Ayton, Bagley), but I'm not getting seduced by them either if a perimeter player of similar upside is available.
I've always had a soft spot for bigs and it'd be cool to continue the tradition here, but anything less than the very best and they're secondary players now.
