Well I would understand that angle if Tim Duncan had 5 finals MVPs.
It was a sure thing on draft day when Duncan was teamed with Robinson it was going to be a top team.
They then went on to get their pushed in by the Lakers 3peat before finally breaking through again in 2003. David retires, and they do it again in 2005, then again in 2007 and finally in 2014, all without David and the last two with Tim not that impressive.

it was drob and Duncan, then it was Duncan, Manu, Tony. Not hard to figure out. The spurs had multiple coaches with drob and they had success. How do you think other competent nba coaches would’ve faired with Duncan, Manu, Tony?

Who was Pop before he coached the Spurs. Was he the GOAT when he stepped on the sidelines? No, he was a new GM who fired the head coach who, at the time, had taken the recent franchise further than it had ever gone in the playoffs after countless disappointments.
He was also one loss away from getting fired while having Tim Duncan and David Robinson on his team!

Pop has been there since Duncan was drafted and deserves as much credit as the coyote who also has been there as long. The one big difference between today's team and team of those winning years is the absence of the cheer leaders. They could really use them now.
