Gross. WIC has apparently come a long way. My husband lost his job right after I had the baby and we were on, um, government assistance for a few months. They just give you vouchers for a few free staples each month. YOu can buy the regular stuff, but it usually has to be the generic brand. Meaning we got the HEB Longhorn cheddar.

And word up: if you go to Walmart you can get any brand you want as long as it;s wiothin the guidelines set out by WIC.

thats why I always bring my WIC guide. they'd try to tell me i couldn;t get something and I'd be like "look , it says right here i can".. and they'd be like " well this is HEB and we think we are god so we changed the rules"... then I'd just go to WalMart... or the WIC only store on Fred Rd.
