Team needs another perimeter defender. They can't keep pretending like Simmons is one. If he can hassle guards for a few minutes, he'll get those minutes. But as I was just saying to SAG, I hope the team just keeps him in Austin all next season.
hmm better Austin than the bench that is for sure, bc at 19, he really needs to play. He won't learn on the bench that is for sure.

Since they've had just two players since 2008 pan out, and one was traded for the other, yes.
    2005 - Mahinmi - pick 28
    2006 - no 1st round pick
    2007 - Splitter - pick 28
    2008 - G Hill - pick 26
    2009 - no 1st round pick. Blair pick 37
2010 - James Anderson - pick 20 (Got injured. Back in the NBA for the kings).
    2011 - Cory Joseph - pick 29
    2012 - no 1st round pick
    2013 - LJC (stash) - pick 28
    2014 - Kyle Anderson - pick 30
    2015 - Nikola Milutinov (stash) pick 26

Apart from Anderson and Milutinov/LJC (whom we dont know yet) we had good success. All those players have gotten good contracts, started or played big minutes for playoff teams.

I expect Murray to take the EXACT same route as Cojo did..question is was who was the better player coming into the NBA? Cojo had a slow start..Murray will get a shot to play next year but it will be quick and over fast lol
By far Kyle was the better player and not bc I am fan if you look at the resume and their accomplishments, he had done more in HS and in college and was in all the overhyped HS all star type games and in USA youth team. CoJo was a bit of a reach by RC, but it panned out.
Murray is just potential at this point. He was mocked all over with some mocks having him anywhere from 20-40 early. But he's a "potential" pick. He's so young that you have to consider that his weaknesses are fixable and consider what good he's done at his young age and he accomplished a lot. I was hyping him early, but then he started rising in mocks and I gave up on him and scouted other guards.

I also didn't think he was a "Spursy" pick bc with all his aggressiveness, he still has very questionable decision making, thus his low shooting percentages. He doesn't necessarily take good shots, forces things at times, and well you see his TO ratio. There is also a reason why he fell. It wasn't a gift. He's a development project, but he does have upside and I am happy about the pick because of that. Also we needed size at PG and he has that and length. There is a lot of promise there. He will have to realize it is all.

    Chad Ford ESPN Senior Writer

The San Antonio Spurs select Washington PG DeJounte Murray with the No. 29 pick. Steal of the draft. He was ranked No. 9 on my final Big Board bling, athletic and a great feel. If his shooting improves he could be the best PG in the draft. He could be an All-Star someday. Seriously. Typical Spurs. They got a lottery pick at 29.
Chad Ford's track record is garbage.

When the wizards passed repeatedly on Kawhi, Jimmy Butler, Chandler Parsons, and so on, to draft Jan Vesely and Chris Singleton ...

He called them THE WINNERS of draft night.

That's right: Vesely over Kawhi (& Play) and Singleton over Butler and Parsons.

    WINNERS of the draft.

Murray seems to be the most athletic first rounder we've had in a long time.

One of my top five realistic picks we could of got in this draft. This kid is super talented, and skilled for his age with so much upside.. You can't teach instincts of getting to the rim at will at an advanced stage like he does at only 19 years old. Of course we filled that need tonight for the future. I really wonder if Spurs plan on playing him at shooting guard, and rather transition Kyle Anderson to backup point guard this season which I think they should do. Defense is the only thing that worries me about this kid as on tape he looked lazy, but he said supposedly loves to play defense from what he said today and has the natural tools. At least one thing he will get under pop at this point of his career is getting the best out of him on that end.

Just as well, it would've been annoying having to hear his dad about his son not getting minutes.
At this point I'm hoping they sign Garrett Temple even if it's just for 1 year. Any combo guard that's NBA ready & can play defense will do.

    ! Rockets grabbed GP II

Sorry about Spurs passing on your guy. They are shopping KJ McDaniels though, so this guy will get that spot I think.

He should play immediately unless he's just dreadful. Other than Parker and Kawhi, literally no one else on the roster can dribble a basketball and the only thing we're playing for next year is to see how many reg season wins we can pull off. Unless Simmons or this new kid, DJM, becomes a 3rd of a surprise triumvirate, we've got nothing good coming our way in the playoffs, if we somehow get that far playing barely functional iso-ball like in this past playoffs.

Dude is a PG and Fathead is trash.
He's a combo guard, and that's why I think Spurs should put Anderson at a position that he is comfortable with.

Literally nothing but overwhelmingly positive feedback from NBA writers on Twitter. Hope they're all right.

Damn, is Simmons being sarcastic on the whole thing of Spurs "finding gems all the time"

Way to twist my statement around.

You just love arguing for the sake of it.

Get ed. This franchise is respected sports wide, and you losers are always first to say "they're wrong we're not that good or great"

    This:

    http://www.nba.com/spurs/video/teams...ght.mp4-613024

This is why I love the Spurs. I remember in the Alamodome sitting by that blue curtain, RC was some level of staffer at that point and David's dad's seats were in front of us. This was back when Robinson was still blowing it up. I met him and RC a few times. They're just fans of the game. Right here, I promise you, RC is just playing fantasy bball GM. He drafted some dude he had no clue would slide to the Spurs. Like you're on craigslist for a ratty camero and you find a '67 Corvette at the same price.

He doesn't care if it needs new tires and an oil change, he's still high on adrenaline. "Dude look what I found!!!!" RC is in "we can fix that" mode with questions. If only every team was as lucky as the Spurs to have so many carpenters and mechanics handy, the NBA would be a lot more compe ive.

First you build the system, then you build the players.

    • Spurs didn't develop Mahimni.
    • Spurs got one solid season out of Splitter. Talk about overrated AF. He hasn't played more than 60 games in a season but once. Decent NBA player that doesn't really excel at anything.
    • CoJo was and is nothing special. His defense is decent/good but, he's still a below average offensive player. He's not a pg because he's a poor playmaker. He's not a good shooting guard because he's not much of a shooter. He's a decent role player that you could live with or without.
    • James Anderson is the definition of a fringe NBA talent.
    • Blair was nothing special and he was considered by many to be lottery talent. How many different teams has he played for now?

Some decent players in there but, none of these guys turned out to be steals in the draft. And with the exception of Anderson, NONE of them are playing for the Spurs.
