I don’t really care (who the cares about 007 in 2018), but casting him would just be a publicity stunt. In no way does he fit the mental image one gets when thinking of James Bond. The producers don’t deserve praise for being “progressive” or anything - they’re trying to inject life into a dead/dying franchise by stunt casting.
btw Ian Fleming was quite the racist (ex: Live and Let Die). Not sure if that’s been mentioned

It's James Bond, dude. It has always been a reflection of the culture, not a trendsetter. The only reason it has made money for half a century is because it does so. A Black bond will not be groundbreaking, just noteworthy because it hasn't been done yet.

Just as I can’t picture an American bond, I can’t really picture a black bond. Just because he’s a British guy who occasionally wears a tux does not make him an ideal casting choice. But hey I’m sure they’ll cast him and get praised for their bravery, so what I think doesn’t really matter
I think that is more a reflection on Western society - prefer to wear costumes and dream of "super powers".

As a fan, I rather them put the series on the s or even cancel it than attempt to modernize him.
I just googled "similiar films to Bond" and half those listed were filmed in the 90s. The success and failure of Kingsman illustrates this. They only made it 2 films in and now searching for new leads.
Tough film genre. I still think the formula should remain - exotic international spots, alcohol/womanizing and high tech weaponry
