Here's another idea I had this morning.

The state of Tx is quietly mulling legalizing gambling to allow casinos here in Texas. Now would be a great time to pass this legislation, and get things rolling in Htown. You'd have a construction worker base and a casino employee base to pull from. Just a thought.

Well, I generally don't have much nice stuff to say about the city of Houston but it's been very welcoming of the flood refugees. As many know by now the Astrodome is going to stand in for the Super Dome as a massive shelter. Bob McNair, owner of the Houston Texans, has said he will donate a million dollars to the relief effort and has challenged Houston to match it. Just about every church, temple, mosque, and community group is holding a drive of some kind. Tons of businesses are giving away something free to anyone with a valid Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama drivers license. Even here at the University of Houston the administration is talking about offering up some of our athletic facilities as shelters. I would hope that any city in America would step the way this city has. I just hope that this good will lasts through the refugees extended stays.

I was watching the Houston news last night and they showed this lady doing the whole "shane-ne" thing, going off about how she had her mom and kids to take care of, and wanted a house, food, and water.

Look around lady, be thankful you're alive.

Late Wednesday, Tenet Healthcare Corp. asked Louisiana State Police and the U.S. Coast Guard to help evacuate one of its hospitals in Gretna after a supply truck carrying food, water, medical supplies and pharmaceuticals was held up by gunmen.

Two days ago, when several posters here were saying "leave the looters alone". I said that we had to stop the looting to keep NO from descending into like Baghdad. Several people, particularly Kori and TimVP, said it would be Atlantis by tomorrow (yesterday) and New Orleans could only descend into the ocean at this point, so why waste efforts trying to stop looting. Well, this is why. This is what minor looting escalates to.

So what can I say....I told you so.

What really worries me here isn't housing the refugees, its what is going to happen when they get settled in and start looking for jobs/working. There's no shortage of places where Houston could convert things to makeshift housing, but the roads and public transportation systems here are woefully inadequate for a city this size. , I remember the mess that the Superbowl made, and that was just for one weekend and in a very specific part of town.

All I want to know is WTF is up with the Red Cross? They have been MIA in N'awlins for two days now. I bet those people that had to sleep on I-10 last night would welcome something as trivial as a bottle of water.


That Sheehan blamed the hurricane on Bush, saying his global warming policies and "killing policies" are to blame.

There are multiple huge lines of red cross trucks and people but they can't get into the areas yet. On the east they are getting to people because the water is gone but there is debris.

In the west it's water.

I'd watch it with the "I told you so"'s. Only the men can get away with it around here. If a woman does it, even completely inadvertantly, she is being y and something has obviously crawled up her ass.

exactly, apparently someone fired at a military helicopter (per MSNBC) one of those jackasses is going to shoot at the soldiers and get killed because the soldiers will be defending themselves and the soldiers will get blamed for it by some bleeding-heart dip .

The first night.. when I saw the National Guard at the dome WITHOUT guns.. I was like "ok.. now that's ing stupid"...

Here in town we have about 6 armories and the police have at least 3-4 small armories.

At Brooks we used to have maybe 400 M16's, bunch of AT4 anti tank rockets, some stingers etc.. stored in a bunker behind bars.

To be fair with Ford Motor Credit....they usually give defferments but I've never seen any for 2 years. Thats pretty unprecedented.

Canada's Red Cross is assembling volunteers. French President Jacques Chirac and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder sent messages of sympathy to President Bush.

Pope Benedict says he's praying for victims of the "tragic" hurricane while China's President Hu Jintao expressed his belief that the American people would "rebuild their beautiful homeland."

But not all responses were positive. Islamic extremists are rejoicing. Internet chatter referred to the storm as "Private" Katrina, and said it had joined the global holy war against the U.S.

If they MADE the payments for them, that'd be a nice gesture...but they are only deferring them, huge difference.
