The ArchBishop called him last night and said that the Catholic churches and schools in San Antonio are ready to step up in any way needed.
The refugees will be put up at Kelly AFB. SBC is donating cell phones and H-E-B food.

Using Kelly is a great idea.
They are sending more NG troops to NO, but looks like they're taking their time doing it.
I can't belive the slowness of our government right now. If they can't run the show or come up with any ideas, time for someone to step up and say bureaucracy, here's how we're going to do this.
Councilman Hall said for people to give to the Salvation Army, Red Cross and Food Bank. He said they need water, canned food, and of course money.
wow.
I;m very impressed with our city right now.
Looks like they are trying to get this thing covered from every angle.![]()
HEB accepting food donations in 4 stores.
300 olmos @ san pedro
FM78 @ foster
S. Zaramora @ sw military
9900 Wurzbach rd.
There's 4 HEB locations that are accepting food donations all day tomorrow (I didn't catch the exact ones -- I know one was Olmos). You can also donate directly at Kelly.
Good job, ObiWan - I didn't listen to the locations exactly.
I am looking on cnn.com and it is talking about all the deaths at the Convention Center. That is sad.![]()
They also said that there will be several medical clinics set up to give assistance around the city -- not just for medical treatment but also psychological.
thats what i'm talking about. SA is awesome. It makes my heart go pitter patter. they're covering all the bases on this - not just shelter and food.
They also said that they will look for more space if Kelly gets filled up, they don't rule out taking in even more people. They said anyone who arrives can ask for medical treatment, no matter how small the problem, and they'll get treated by University Hospital or one of the four clinics set up.
It sounds like they are doing an awesome job and really stepping up on this.
People should be proud of S.A. government right now.
Yes, SA is awesome. I hope the Saints play in SA, I will most likely go to the game.
I might even go. And you know I don't like football.![]()
So I just filled my truck up with gas.
Went inside, grabbed a coke and went to pay for the gas.
The attendant said to just leave the money on the dresser.![]()
By the way, if anyone wants to give money to the Red Cross Operation Katrina Relief here locally in S.A., the number is 351-1366 or you can stop by Cross Roads Mall on the Fredricksburg side they are taking donation. I think they have over $112K so far.
You love football but not as much as me.![]()
AntsMarching.orgDave Matthews Band will likely play a benefit concert for Hurricane Katrina victims, according to Billboard. The concert will be an additional date to the already 3 night stand at Red Rocks, Colorado (Sept. 9-11). All proceeds from the Monday Sept. 12 show will benefit Katrina victims. This creates a unique four night stand for the band. For those few that have no idea, Hurricane Katrina made final landfall August 29th and has destroyed and flooded parts of Mississippi and Louisiana. Mayor Ray Nagin of New Orleans when asked how many deaths were expected said, `Minimum, hundreds. Most likely, thousands.' If true, it would make the storm by far the nation's deadliest hurricane in more than a century. They mayer is also reporting that the city will not be functional for two or three months because of the damage and flooding.
I thought the gas stations were ing us!
$122 K so far for disaster relief... but i wonder if thats just the called in donations?
i don;t think it includes all the cash and checks they've gotton at crossroads.
I think the airport in NO is open for military / humanitarian flights only during daytime. The AF will setup a mobile air combat control station there soon (radar) and maybe it can be working 24x7 if they get the runway lights on a generator. That should be where a lot of the people come from...
I really hope they get the Saints a game in the Dome on the 18th. And I really hope SA knocks it out of the park by taking donations at the game, and the people of SA step up.
Obiwan, I didn't understand if that was the total either. I heard earlier that they had collected 40K in checks/cash at CrossRoads today so far.
Yeah, they just showed a big graphic with that # on it, but no further info.
It;s got me kinda confused.
I like to think that s just the call in /allready counted amount and that there is even more out in those buckets.![]()
I'm there for sure....but I like football and I've never gotten to go to a pro game...
Now they just have to get the ones that need help here.....
