Let's at least give it a chance.
only if it helps make the dome money.

Most of you are aware of my position on this sorry, minor league matter so I won't repeat it. Suffice it to say that if this bunch of third-rate knuckleheads suddenly has trepidations about coming to San Antonio then so be it. The league wouldn't be missed by many and few would be disappointed that the so-called league didn't come to town.

Just keep following other NFL teams San Antonians until the genuine article finally arrives in the not too distant future. And anybody who still believes that the NFL isn't coming really has a low opinion of San Antonio and a misconception of what type of city the league wants.

The Dome needs all the money it can get . A new regular tenant helps.
    Or even a temporary one.

Believe what you want, but you have it backwards . It's the NFL that has a low opinion of San Antonio.

Mike Taylor's twitter suggested his source close to UFL said since cold shoulder given by SA, UFL going to plan B. Wether that's more marketing to SA or trying somewhere else I don't know.

If you stupid s ruin this because of some UTSA football...
    Well said....

If we turn this down the NFL could look at it this way: if San Antonio can't/won't support them how will they support the NFL?

    No they won't.

The NFL looks at the TV ratings and sees that San Antonio has the Cowboys turned on every Sunday.

They know we support the NFL already......that's why they don't want to put a team here.

We got our taste of NFL football with the Saints during Katrina and get our annual tickler from the Cowboys training camp however that might end after next season. We already have one college team in UIW. Oh wait, all seems to have been forgotten about that team which will be the case with UTSA because it doesn't garner enough attention. If a UFL team which has some potential NFL talent on it comes to the city and provides some excitement on the field, then what is there not to like? We as a city have become so fixated on an NFL team coming to San Antonio but its not going to happen. Do you really think the voters would approve a tax hike to help fund a new stadium? And that would have to be before we knew we were getting a team. Our "city leaders" have done enough to waste potential sports opportunities here in San Antonio, I hope they don't screw this one up also.

Jerry Jones would never allow it...Just look at when Tom Benson was trying to move the Saints to S.A.

JJ has little to do with keeping the NFL out of San Antonio.

Benson was just using San Antonio as leverage just like every other team that flirts with SA has done, including the Florida Marlins.

It was the then commissioner Paul Tagliabue who was most instrumental in keeping the Saints from moving to San Antonio permanently in 2006. He was dead set against San Antonio getting an NFL club. Jones had nothing to do with the decision. Now that Tagliabue is gone the city has an excellent shot at getting a franchise. Current commissioner Goodell does not have the same negative at ude toward San Antonio that his predecessor had.

it's already been clearly stated in this thread.

we have little to no shot at getting an NFL team regardless of the commissioner.

You're so off the mark it's incredible. San Antonio will be a very viable NFL market. It is now and will be more so in the years ahead. Check the demographic/economic trends for this area, have a little foresight, and don't be so negative. No joke.

Give a detailed explanation as to why you think we will get an NFL team.

When do we get one? why would an owner move here and/or why would the NFL include us in any expansion plans? What demographic/economic trends are you referring to that make us attractive enough for an owner?

I'm not negative. I'm realisitic. No joke.

I've already gone through this ad nauseum on messageboards since we went through the whole Saints ordeal during katrina, but I'm willing to listen to whatever anyone has to say because I still want to have some hope of getting an NFL team some day.

    Go ahead.

Like yourself I've written on here many times why San Antonio is and will continue to be an attractive spot for an NFL team. Besides my own opinions I can offer this study which I've posted on here before but will post again on how SA is very probabilistically likely to get a franchise. It's a little dated now but still an interesting read.

according to that chart, Jacksonville had a 9% chance of getting a team, Buffalo a 17% chance, while San Antonio and Salt Lake City should have already have teams in place at 56% and 51% chances.

I'm guessing those guys that wrote that paper are working on their degrees? Turns out that's the same place that Mike Leach got his degree at. Interesting.

They got it partly right when they said:

The distance to the closest NFL franchise city is a major aspect for the location of a franchise. The NFL does not want all of its teams in one part of the country because there will be interest only in that part of the country, not the whole United States. This is especially important for a sport driven by national television revenues.
Where they miscalculated San Antonio's position is when they said this:

Furthermore, locating a new franchise close to an existing franchise (generally up to 75 miles) would financially hurt the owner of the latter. The league does not approve of these territorial infringements.
SA is a bit of an anomaly because although we are about 275 miles away, we are still seen as something of a secondary market to the Cowboys.

    Case in point:

Giants-Cowboys Sees Largest Overnight In "Sunday Night" History
NBC earned a 16.5 overnight Nielsen rating for its "SNF" telecast featuring Giants-Cowboys from 8:30-11:45pm ET, marking the best overnight ever for a "SNF" telecast. The first regular-season game ever at Cowboys Stadium is the best overnight for any NFL regular-season primetime game since Broncos-Dolphins earned a 17.4 overnight in December '98. Giants-Cowboys was up 65% over the Emmy Awards on CBS (10.0 overnight rating), and when airing head-to-head from 8:30-11:00pm, "SNF" outrated the Emmy Awards by 71.1%. In primetime, "SNF" also drew a 12.8 overnight, giving NBC the win for the night and marking the net's best Sunday average (excluding the Super Bowl and the Olympics) since January '04. Dallas-Ft. Worth topped all metered markets with a 41.7 rating, followed by San Antonio (30.4) and Austin (25.6). N.Y. earned a 19.3 rating, which was tied for 13th (THE DAILY).
We had a higher market rating than NY that night for the Cowboys/Giants game.

TVs are already turned on here for the NFL. The NFL does not have any desire to put a team here because of that.

I dont see the threat to UTSA football as Wolfe seems to be so adamant about. There is a fan base of students and alumni that are going to commit to UTSA football at the dome, so that shouldn't be an issue. Division I football is great and all but it doesn't need to be the only option for football in San Antonio. And by the looks of it, UTSA will be playing ITT-Tech, Kaplan, etc. the first couple of years so once the excitement wears off, what will be the real draw for your average football fan in San Antonio? If a minor league team with NFL caliber talent is what we need to get behind, then so be it. At least its an option for the city.
