Cheers bklynspursfan, between this and Spurs personnel actually being with him for his trip to NY shines some positive light in this crappy turn of events.
Definitely crappy., but hopefully it has a happy ending. That would be him returning this season

Wouldn't surprise me either. But what LA did doesn't necessarily mean that are gunning for him per say, just that they are going to go after big names. Whether it be Kawhi, LeBron, Cousins, PG13. They want to make a splash. Hopefully it is this off season with PG13 and not next with Kawhi.
True, but I don't think we can overlook the "going home" factor either. You know the one thing that bothered me the most out of all this was the tweet from Young. The one about, and I'm paraphrasing here, Kawhi just goes to work and goes home with his family, he's not Tim, he's not the Spurs best friend. Who would honestly say something like that about a team sport. To be successful in any team sport you have to build some bond, trust with your teammates. Sure, I'm not saying you have to be best friend have a father figure son type relationship but you know what I mean. I'm going to guess that was leaked by the uncle. I'm starting to wonder if the uncle feels threatened by Pop and doesn't want Kawhi to form a close bond with him a la Tim Duncan.

I feel ya there, but home can't offer 219 million. My hope is that the super max is more enticing than going home for Kawhi. I honestly don't know what he is going to do (if he is even offered it). But he is still a Spur so I have to hold out hope. Good thing is, July is only 5 months away so we will have more clarification then.

Jabari article said Kawhi is working out trying to come back to play for the Spurs. It doesn't put too much stock into a crazed uncle demanding Kawhi play for LA.

It also points to Kawhi's desire to still play this year. Which, IMO, is a good sign. He may not play, but the fact that, according to Young's sources, Kawhi still wants to play.
Well, for those concerned about the uncle and the drama and him wanting to be traded perhaps it’s a small comfort.

Personally I have always been concerned more about the injury than the uncle... that’s just me . So this doesn’t give me much comfort at all. Tiago Splitter and Grant Hill and Penny etc all wanted to come back and play... but body and mind are two separate things.

I think if he were right the drama and the uncle would be really easily taken care of. Lamarcus wanted to get traded and he’s still here. But if Kiwi’s career has turned into something else due to the injury .... then getting signs he wants to play again doesn’t mean anything.

I wonder if Kawhi actually voted for Donald Trump, and THIS is what has jaded his relationship with Pop. It all seems so surreal that this type of political animosity could shatter 'strong relationships' but we see it everywhere else in society. It's speculative as well, but such a narrative could help explain the suddenness and the otherwise inexplicable nature of the rift between them.

We saw this dynamic lead Dwayne Dedmon away.

And before David Lee retired, he made it clear that "his political stance got him into trouble with his former 'boss'" - whether or not he was referring to Pop is debatable. I do believe however, that David Lee on one leg would've been 10 times better than Joffrey.

This is why talking politics at work is taboo - because it affects the integrity of decision making, due to personal biases stemming from political affiliations.

I still have hope that Kawhi returns this season and that all of this hubris stems SOLELY from frustrations about the nature of the injury itself.
    lol

A weird combination of projection and wishcasting.

i'm just taking pop's word for now. it is what it is. if he plays he plays but he probably won't. maybe that's just pop being caustic and deciding to move on with the press and the team and just going from there or maybe it's just what it is at face value. the real determination will be made this summer when it comes to how the spurs address his max offer. until then, it's just seeing if the spurs make the playoffs or the lottery.

He was being cautious. Also, it felt heart wrenching for him to say the news. He didn't want to shut Kawhi out because Pop feels like Kawhi wants so bad to return. It also gets rid of all this "uncle" bull talk.

Not sure you commit to that supermax if it's a degenerative quad issue.

Until Kawhi and his crew actually want to explain what the is going on (considering he's been medically cleared to play), I'm going to assume he's being a soft pussy sitting out to get a free $20 million

And a second opinion about what at this point? Does he actually think that he needs surgery and the Spurs doctors are simply lying to him?

Exactly my concern. There were rumors it was degenerative and that he would have it the rest of his career, he won’t be able to play B2B and needs to be managed with possible flaring up of pain. This outcome is looking more likely than not. I hope to be wrong.

Well then he might as well retire after next season then. That is the last year of guaranteed money from the spurs. Unless he opted into that player option. If you can’t even get out there on the court with an injury that does not require surgery missing an entire season he should retire.

Woj at 1:20 "he's been cleared by the Spurs doctors and outside doctors, and it is on him.."

So yeah, he just being a pussy or he simply has the pain tolerance threshold of a 4-year-old..
