I hope the treatment of Parker will piss off Pop and we can quit gifting Borrego wins.

Real talk, though, Tony Parker had a really good season. (Using VORP against him is dumb because it penalizes him for a lack of blocked shots, steals and offensive rebounds as if those counting stats have anything to do with a player like TP. )

Parker scored at his best rate since the 2014 championship season. Totaled assists at his best rate since 2013. Best shooting year of his career from 10-to-16 feet. His plus/minus stats were nearly identical to Kemba Walker. In fact, plus/minus says TP was the best defender on the Hornets. He helped a nearly identical Hornets team win more games than the previous season.

Considering he's a 36-year-old point guard who relies on speed, it's amazing he's still able to play at this level. Every other comparable point guard in NBA history had long fallen off by his age. Add in the ruptured quad (that was a career-ending injury for literally every other NBA player who suffered the injury) and Parker's season was even more impressive. Anyone who says differently is either trolling or a bitter Manu-only fan.

I really would like to see Tony come back in a veteran mentor role with the Spurs. He needs to retire in a Spurs jersey. Have one of the Big 3 retire for any other team would be criminal.

Wade had his brief stint in Chicago and then returned to Miami for his last hurrah. It didn't tarnish his Heat legacy, or his sendoff. I hope Tony gets that opportunity to do that with San Antonio.

Very happy for Tony's good season. Even happier that it was for another team besides the Spurs

On basketball-reference, they scrape the play-by-play to generate some of their stats, so their numbers (mostly the possession numbers) can differ. NBA.com is the most accurate these days, tbh.
I find glitches in both, but gotta say baskettball reference's take on Tony's defensive abilities seems to be a bit more accurate than nba.com's at the moment.

I've been more critical of Tony than any of the other Spur greats, but there have been times this season, in games when our offense bogs down and we suddenly look stagnant, or out of control, that I wish Tony was around so Pop could insert him to calm the storm and guide the offense. You could really see last season when he played, even coming back from injury, that the offense moved much better with him orchestrating things than it did with Murray or Mills at the point.

Perhaps he chose to sit and is coming back home as the "culture guy" and saving the last of his strength for the Spurs? This way Spurs can ship Mills and keep the culture for cheaper than 50 mills...

Probably because Pop had DWhite and Derozan both on the bench. The issue you are describing is because Patty is terrible at running the offense and Manu is gone.

TP being here wouldn't solve that, if anything he's taking minutes away from DWhite which would have been a disaster since Pop already gives way too many of his minutes away to Patty.

I know it wouldn't advance the team, but when I read that I can't help thinking that I'd like to see it. I'd be lying if I said different.

Truthfully, it was just a matter of the Hornets appearing to be eliminated and Borrego going with a youth movement. Devonte Graham replaced Parker in the rotation and some other vets got their minutes slashed (over the same time frame Parker was replaced, Batum had his playing time slashed to 22 minutes per game [from up over 30 MPG] and MKG down to 13 MPG). Then Blake Griffin hurt his knee, the Pistons started losing and the Hornets almost stumbled into the playoffs. Kemba Walker averaged 30 points during that stretch and helped the Hornets to some fluke-ish wins.

Oh, and Devonte Graham was terrible in Parker's place: 5.4 points and 3.8 assists in 18.3 minutes per game on 29.7% shooting from the field and 21.1% shooting from three-point range.

I know there are some in here who have fun pushing their agenda but the truths are: Parker had a damn good season, the Hornets had a winning record when TP played but couldn't win without him, Borrego went with a youth movement when the season appeared to be over, Blake Griffin injury + Kemba catching fire + fluke wins almost got the Hornets into the playoffs despite Parker's replacement being one of the worst rotation players in the NBA.
Hornets were always in the hunt, one game, two games the most behind the 8th seed, tf are you saying. I like Parker too unlike others but he had a great season and somehow he became a bench warmer?
Its common sense, unless you think Borrego is a ing idiot and stopped using him, that i can except.

So you don't know any facts, and you're not interested in any facts? You just "know".

    Nice.
Common sense, why was he inactive when they were trying to win games to get in the playoffs or warming the bench in a bunch of games.
Of course i'm not going to spend time checking stats for anyone tbh. I just use common sense.

If "common sense" was really common, there wouldn't be a special name for it. Spouting off about things you don't know, and refusing to look at available facts is common ignorance. You use common ignorance. A lot.

I know you're capable of absorbing NBA knowledge through Common Sense osmosis, so you know this already, but the Hornets were 31-38, 10th place in the East and five games behind the Pistons when Borrego went with the youth movement.

Feel bad for TP, he didn't deserve that to end his career..at least we were blessed that we didn't have to watch Manu get demoted to 3rd string on an East lottery team, fortunately..

according to timvp so tony was "good" and got shut down because CHA wasn't in the POs hunt... then why didn't he see the court once when they were back in the race?

tony has gotta be kicking himself for leaving tbh.

even if he played poorly in limited with the spurs he'd still be getting his asshole licked by brazil.

Tim and Manu went out with dignity with the team that drafted them. To this day, they're still hanging around the Spurs gym mentoring the young players. Tony refused a similar role in the Spurs this year. He's always been more selfish than those two unfortunately.

Big nosed Argies getting regulated by timvp

Parker was benched because they thought they were eliminated from playoff contention and wanted to groom the younger players. Borrego is a terrible coach (check hornets reddit), so him sticking with a terrible Graham cost them the playoffs. He played great his final two games of the season, Xmenfan1990 posted the game logs, so his play had nothing to do with it

He had better games this year than Manure had in him his last 3 seasons tbfh. Then again, HOTS always had the better numbers....

Spurs matched the Sixers offer. Manu chose the Spurs. Spurs matched Hornets offer. TP chose the Hornets. If he's getting DNP'd into retirement, it's his own fault. Nobody should feel sorry for TP.

My jersey will be retired in San Antonio, surely, but that's why there was a little misunderstanding when I was in China. They said I was going to finish my career with the Spurs, but what I was saying in fact is that my jersey will be hanging out there. Otherwise, as a player, go play, it's over with the Spurs.

It's ok, you can't ask every player to be classy.

Tony, Bonner, Elson... you need those kinda utilitarian players to burn out minutes in the regular season, tbh, they play their roles well.
