Republicans scramble to recover now that the abortion position they campaigned on is being realized
House Republicans still think it's
just an issue to use in their next election campaign, to use in all their campaigns forever, never truly decided.
The horrible dark joke is on them.
"Republicans wanted to weaponize abortion against vulnerable Democrats in 2020,
but a wave of strict bans across the country has upended their strategy,
leaving them scattered and mostly mute."
In other words,
they've discovered that most of the country does not want abortion to be banned,
and that it's an issue that very much motivates many voters.
It also motivates many Democratic challengers, particularly women.
They just saw their party swept out of power in the House on a wave of angry women, and
it might just be sinking in that that was just the beginning.
"Dozens of Republican offices contacted by POLITICO did not respond to questions on the abortion law, including all the House lawmakers in the Alabama delegation."
Sen. Jeff Merkley, the Oregon Democrat, had a spot-on response.
"In a sea of offensive attacks on women, this is really something.
Justifying the Alabama legislature's draconian, misogynist abortion ban
by pretending you're doing it to protect rape victims is disgusting."
It's disgusting, and even some Republicans know that.
Which is why you're not hearing most of those who like to pretend they're mainstream actually defending it.

I am personally on the fence. Which demographics are having abortions? - isn't that a good thing....
60% abortions are white

A pregnant woman was shot in the stomach. She was charged in her baby’s death.

because it was ruled the guy shot her in self defense
The logic is still flawed. If it was her born child standing next to her who ended up getting inadvertently shot by someone acting in self defense against her, she wouldn't be getting charged for the death of her child. Maybe reckless endangerment or neglect (which I think would actually make a lot of sense in this situation), but not manslaughter.
In your situation the shooter misses. If they shot a 90 year old cancer patient instead of a kid they'd still be liable for manslaughter because they missed. This person did not miss. Now the question is we have laws protecting the unborn does this situation apply. And when I say laws protecting the unborn I'm not talking about backwards Alabama laws I'm talking about the ones the prosecute drunk drivers and domestic abusers for causing miscarriages. If in the commission of a crime a miscarriage occurs the offender is sometimes liable. In tbh case the mother was the one committing the crime. So does that law apply? Is a legitimate question
the guy's opinion "I Feared For My Life" from an unarmed pregnant woman?
unnecessary, excessive force?
or is America always "I Feared For My Life" so i shoot 'em up?
