As far as commitments go, they got some 3 star DB from Oklahoma. DGB didn't make it, Edwards did I believe.

For sure. With him, Michael and Williams we will have three 5 star RBs on the roster, and one 4 star with Malena.

Now only if we could get help on the D-Line. Can't seem to grab anyone for that very important unit.

What was his deal? How come he didn't make it at OU? I know he got crushed in the Texas game, but I didn't see much more of him all season.

Something interesting I read regarding Texas scholarships:

" In the previous three classes, the Longhorns have taken 20, 24 and 22 (counting Tevin Jackson) enrollees, and with the rob Peter to pay Paul math that is in play, the Longhorns could shift numbers around with the arrival of early enrollers (who can be counted forward or backwards). With three enrollees in the Class of 2010, four more in 2011 and another seven in 2012 (including the two JUCOs), the Longhorns could conceivably approach 28-30 scholarships in this class if they want, as long as they don’t go above 85 in August. The current team scholarship number (minus the graduating seniors of 2011) currently sits at 57 and dropping, so the 85-man number isn’t going to be an issue. "

That's really good info right there. Texas is still under 85 even if you add the 2012 guys.

Not much going on right now because recruiting is entering a "dead period" that prohibits contact between coaches and prospects. I've linked a recruiting calendar so everyone can see what I'm talking about. Red = bad for recruiting junkies. The good news is Texas has done a great job with guys like DGB and Edwards up until this point and they'll attempt seal the deal in January when contact is allowed again. January 20th to the 22nd will be the official visit weekend for the commitments who missed the team banquet because of playoffs.

Per Hook 'Em 24/7, Stacy Searels did go by Dallas Bishop Dunne last week to see 2013 OL Ishmael Wilson. Despite being a Louisiana native and a HUGE LSU fan, it's looking like the Longhorns will invite him to a Junior Day and offer in February. He's a longshot when/if LSU offers but the staff likes him quite a bit and will give it their best shot.

Not that anybody was holding out hope, but I think we can scratch Toshiro Davis off the list. His review of Austin trip an 8 out of 10 does not quite as powerful as his words on NU - which seem out of the blue. Regardless, I'll be shocked if he doesn't end up at LSU.

ESPNU DE loves trip to Lincoln

    December, 18, 2011 Dec 18

ESPNU 150 defensive end Toshiro Davis (Shreveport, La./Woodlawn) got more than he anticipated on his official visit to see the Cornhuskers. In fact, he was blown away.

“It was way better than I expected,” Davis said. “The facilities and the coaches were the best part. The players were cool. I couldn’t believe some of the things I saw, especially their facilities. I didn’t expect the visit to be that good. It was eye-opening and gave me something to think about.”

Davis, who has been a longtime commitment to the top-ranked Tigers says he’s still committed to LSU. But he’s taking a few trips just to make sure. Last week he made an official visit to Texas.

Here's an OU article on DE Mario Edwards' official visit to Norman this past weekend:

Standout defensive end Mario Edwards (Denton, Texas/Ryan) didn’t hint one way or the other about leaning more to Oklahoma and less to Florida State after a huge weekend visit in Norman with multiple commits and top prospects on hand.

The five-star Seminoles commit and the nation’s top-ranked player did comment on how he enjoyed being in Norman and all that it had to offer.

“It was pretty good, a nice experience,” said Edwards, who attending the Sooners' team banquet weekend festivities. “I got to really get a feel for the place. It was a pretty good environment.”

Edwards said he had a chance to spend some time with uncommitted four-star athlete Nelson Agholor (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep) and three-star defensive end Kyle Kelley (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge). Agholor is ranked No. 41 in the ESPNU 150; Kelley recorded 23 sacks during his senior season.

“They are really good players,” Edwards said. "They are nice guys to get to know.”

Edwards verbally committed to Florida State in March. For months, though, he has been open about visiting other schools in an effort to make the right decision. Edwards has had interest in Oklahoma, LSU, Texas and USC.

The following quotes are from WR Dorial Green-Beckham's father and they're in an article written by one of the national reporters at 24/7. Not only have rumors been going around that this recruitment is down to Arkansas and Texas, but there is more talk that DGB could be done with visits altogether. It's not a done deal at all, but there are some really good vibes with UT's positioning right now. With the last quote, keep in mind that he could visit Austin for a third time while in Texas for the 2012 US Army All-American Bowl:

"That's the only official visit (Texas) he's taken so far," Beckham said. "I know he had a real good time and Texas has a lot to offer. It's a big-time program and they have been recruiting Dorial as hard as any of the others. I know he met the coaches and players and he felt pretty comfortable with everyone."

"They said they really want him and they need someone to stretch the defense," he said. "I know everyone in his final five feels that way, but Texas certainly made that point come across loud and clear."

"I don't think he likes any one over the others," he said. "I know he's just looking for a place where he feels comfortable. He's also looking at the relationships between the coaches and players. They all have great football and facilities, in the end it's just a matter of where he's comfortable."

"Well, Dorial has the Army game the first weekend of January. Then there is a huge basketball tournament here locally the second weekend of January he'll be in. That only leaves two weeks for visits which he may not take. He's already seen all of the programs so it's not a huge issue. I know he will have a decision done on or before signing day."

Sounds like he wasn't incredibly impressed by OU, just being cordial and saying the things he supposed to say.

This article was written by Justin Hopkins, a national / West Coast reporter for 247 Sports. Not a UT homer, not employed by Hook Em 247. Outstanding news. Coach Beckham's quotes are extremely encouraging.

I have to say it, it feels like Texas is in the driver's seat here. This is first time I've seen a quote directly from the Beckhams indicating they might not any further official visits.

I agree with Stretch. Edwards' remarks shouldn't inspire confidence from OU fans. If Texas is in fact the regional favorite, it's down to the Horns and FSU.

Right now, I have a pretty good feeling about DGB coming to Texas, but Mario could end up anywhere. He's got 5 (probably really only 4) schools on his list, and I would give Texas a 25% chance of landing him.

It's difficult not to read too much into a recruit's quotes sometimes, but I likened Edwards' statement to telling an ugly girl she has a nice personality. OU may not be completely out of it but he wasn't convincing with those comments.

Quotes from LB Tim Cole after his official visit to UT:

"Now, my commitment is more solid than ever. Any coach talking to me, now I'm telling them I'm committed to Texas and that's where I want to go," Cole said.

"What stood out for me just how welcoming the players and recruits and coaches were. The whole weekend was great. It made me want to be at Texas even sooner," Cole said. "The whole banquet, the team getting their awards, developing friendships for when I get to college … it was all great. I got to see the campus, talk to Benny Wylie about what he expects when we get there. Everything about it was just great."

"When coach Wylie was talking to everyone, he was telling us that the tempo is faster than in high school," Cole said. "You just have to be prepared for it. But I like that. I like being pushed to my limits."

"I'm trying to stay in shape (for the Army Bowl). I just want to be the same player I've always been. I want to be the best I can be, compete with best of best, show that I'm one of the top players in the nation and prove myself," Cole said.

"Texas just has an impact that most colleges don't have. You get a genuine feel when you go to a place. It's kind of like when you buy a new pair of shoes, you can't wait to put them on. It's kind of the same thing at Texas. I can't wait to get there. The coaches are genuine and they're the kind of people I want to be coached by," Cole said. "I want to be a part of something special."

"Looking back on (the decision) now, I'm definitely 100 percent committed and I'm glad I chose the school I did. They stand out from the rest."
