Good point. I think we are still in the mix bc Pop hasn't moved on to anyone else but I will be the first to say it would shock me. I expect him anywhere else. Too many forwards here and too old and weak everywhere else. I would prefer anywhere but Dubs, anywhere. Dubs it may be. Yuck!
I am not sure Pop will move on. But I have maintained that there aren't enough basketballs in play for the Dubs with Durant. Nonetheless, I'd hate to see him go to the Dubs. I think it is them or the Celts. At this point, I'm just hoping we don't sign Manu to a big final payday - especially not one more than one year.

I don't think "we" were ever in the mix; I think he took the meeting because he didn't want to look like he was disrespecting the Spurs.

From the Spurs' perspective, I suspect they knew that all along and are waiting because there's no downside, especially if, as it appears, Gasol is willing to wait.

As for Crabbe, that offer sheet is probably coming if the Heat match on Johnson. That's the only way it would make sense anyway.

From the Spurs' perspective, I suspect they know that and are already waiting because there's no reason not to. Even if there's only a 0.01% chance, they'd be stupid to not wait 2 days on probably the 3rd best player in the world, especially if, as it appears, Gasol is willing to wait.

Why I'd there any obligation to hold court with the Spurs if there's no chance of going there?

No obligation, but a lot of what players of his magnitude do is for show, appearance, image, etc. and they're so respected league wide, I don't think anyone who'd legitimately consider leaving their current team would turn down a meeting from them.

It's similar to the cache the Lakers used to have. Even as recently as a year ago, they were still able to at least get a meeting with anyone.

Yeah all this talk about OKC beating the Spurs in the playoffs so that equals OKC better then Spurs. But can OKC beat Lebron's Cavs in the finals to win a Championship. Isn't that really what it balls down to? OKC lost to Lebron's Heat team in 2012. What would make him believe that all the sudden OKC could turn that corner.

Will Durant gonna do the same thing with what Igoudala did? If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

I think it'd be more disrespectful if KD pretended to have if interest if there wasn't any. KD I'm sure told LAC thanks but no thanks after their meeting. It's weird there's been NOTHING about SA at all lol. Spurs did the right thing by kicking the tires but now that I think about I dunno if they'd go all out and seem desperate and pretty much ruin things for Presti and possibly get him fired if they stole KD.

Other teams are obviously trying harder in persuading him like Boston and GSW..I dunno why Spurs haven't gone the extra mile but maybe ties with Presti is that reason.

KD isnt leaking things like Aldridge did. We could be firm frontrunners, we could also be out. Nobody knows. All the speculation has been wrong. They said he was "blown away" by LA and then the next thing we know LA has moved on. Its all hush from his camp and so nobody actually knows the situation, it is all speculation at this point.

We have almost the same issue and the fit is even more awkward with us bc our only strength is forwards and we are weak everywhere else. Our big is also a scorer, not a defensive big. I will take Durant but I don't see that team as an easy fit either.

Pop is not going to let Manu walk but he will get paid. Hopefully not an exorbitant amount for the minutes he will play and a reduced role. But it's a payday for this upcoming season + making good on the last where 3 mill for him was too little. Even Dwade is haggling with Heat. I would not be surprised if Timmy retires and pockets his 6.3 mill, that was for last season, too. I am only concerned that we at least get to keep Boban. Finding a big to start on a cheap deal is a tall task.

We may actually come out if this off-season a worse team, paying vets on make good deals to retire, paying Manu more to babysit youngsters and with Boban eloping.

I wonder what Pop has in store for our youngsters this summer league because that's the only upside we are getting if this is the way things go down.

Durant chose Texas in college over everyone else. Not unlikely that he might do it again. I'd rather live in or around SA over Oakland or OKC, personally. Though I'd take OAkland over OKC. Regardless of the team he goes to, they will all be good and they are all well run and coached teams. He really can't make a wrong pick, so he should just pick where he wants to live and who he would enjoy playing with the most.

I'm not buying the hype either. But even before FA started Spurd were never brought up as strong contenders in this thing..it's all about GSW. Which is expected but still odd Spurs don't even get talked about.

Sure, but that can't be confirmed unless he were to say so and obviously he wouldn't.

It's a cutthroat business. They wouldn't care about the potential collateral damage that could occur down the line (Presti). I'm sure they knew there was something like a 0.01% chance, but you take that when it's arguably the 3rd best player in the world.

Tbh the Spurs just don't have much to offer. Our big 3 are on the way out, LMA has never been past the 2nd round, and Pop is old. He has a better shot at winning a le in OKC or GS.

Just passing the time...it was tough for LMA to leave Portland and he's from Texas. I think it will be tough for KD to leave OKC.

Right and don't think Presti doesn't want to beat the Spurs in the playoffs or that he won't make a play for Kawhi down the road out of respect for the Spurs.

Wrong, we would be instant le favorites for the next 3 years and would probably exceed 72 wins if we bothered to try for it

This, nobody seems to understand this. Sure OKC beat us... If you take Durant off OKC this year, we sweep them. If he was plugged into our team, we win the le easily.
