How are you getting movies onto your HPTP (are you using torrents?)

Also, espn3 was working pretty good for me and I don't remember installing anything yall are talking about.

The problem I'm having with ESPN3 definitely has to do with uberkernal. I read a thread on precentral about that kernal having a problem with flash so I stopped overclocking and it instantly worked properly. I'm going to try another OC kernel.

Splashtop Remote Desktop just announced they will be releasing a webOS app - could address some of the 'it doesn't have an XXX app' concerns.

    This....looks....awesome.

I have been reading about it all day, and in the comments of an article, there was something that could put a damper on it, so I will ask the question. Can I remotely access my PC, or do I have to be on the same wifi network?

Kalemsoft greatly increases codec support for the touchpad... (i.e. you can play a file types that the stock player cannot play).

As far as your itunes stuff, (everything I have read leads to this) apple won't allow your files to play nicely without apple devices/software. They would like to keep you in their ecosystem and this is how they enforce it.

I have done a lot of research as well, and there seems to be people who have found work arounds (using HandBrake and such), it's just that none of them have worked for me.

I guess I'll just have to come up with another way. I'm working with DVDFab at the moment to put my DVD's on to my PC then my HPTP and it seems to be working nicely.

    Probably my questions ^

Also, Drachen, DVDFab 8 DVD Ripper worked perfectly for putting the DVD's I own onto my PC in a format that works on my HPTP. It is free for the first 30 days (you might be able to get more free trials) and then $40 after. There is no decoding or anything, it does it all in one step and the iPad formatting works with no tweaking on the HPTP. It is pretty fast as well (took about 45 minutes from putting the DVD into my comp to getting it playing on my HPTP).

So, at least that problem is solved.

A remote desktop app would be pretty worthless if you had to be on same subnet.

The announcement of the Windows app says `go anywhere with your mobile device ... And still have full access to your PC or Mac'.

The original price was $499/$599, later dropped to $399/$499 when they didn't sell.

Thing is if HP had done all the mods that are out in the homebrew community (running @1.5 GHz, getting rid of the logging and all the other crap, etc) up-front people would have had a much better initial impression. The 3.0 release running 1.2 GHz and with logging (etc) enabled is laggy as . 3.0.2 is a little better, but all the patches and the 1.5 GHz kernal make it look much more compe ive. $299 (16GB) / $379 (32) would have gotten a lot more people looking at it IF they'd gone to the trouble of patching it up first.
the software was rushed as well. it wasnt ready. jon rubenstein even said so. they underclocked on purpose probably for that reason and probably for the battery life stats.
a 299 price would not have made stock holders very happy. it costs around 310 to manufacture. cant release something at a loss and compete.

of course you can release at a loss and compete. Loss leader. Your game console is an example of this and the upcoming amazon tablet will probably be too.

The difference in power consumption between the 1.5 and the 1.2 kernesl is negligible, not enough to warrant taking the performance hit. As far as the s/w being rushed, yes, but how the does SQA let something go out there that logs every freaking trivial event and slows the machine down?

Given the drop in stock price over the last month - for this and other reasons -I daresay the stockholders aren't too happy with the current half-billion (or more) dollar writedown as HP dumps these things at $99/$149, not to mention essentially throwing the original $1.2B for Palm down the drain. If you sell at a SMALL loss you make it up on the accessory sales (the Touchstone charger is cool and can't cost anywhere near what it was selling for to make, cases probably have a 500% profit margin, etc.). The Apple model is that they make most of their money on the App Store and iTunes, and certainly had this thing ever been marketed and released properly HP could have gotten something from their app store too (had there been enough machines out there for devs to release WebOS apps).

Sadly, the CEO of Samsung came out and said they had no desire to purchase WebOS, which probably is the deathknell for the OS.

I don't think Web OS is very good. I think the cards are OK, but its not like switching between applications in Android is difficult. Gimmie my damn CM7!

    Amazon tab: 7", $250, November: http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/...78171520110902

TechCrunch, which said it had played with a testing prototype, reported that the plan was for Amazon to offer Amazon Prime -- its $79-a-year Internet streaming service -- for free along with the gadget.

    Interesting.

The upcoming tablet, running an operating system developed from an older version of Google Inc's Android software, will be Wi-Fi only and come with a color touchscreen but a limited 6GB of memory, according to the blog.

    Not. 6GB, WTF??
