Pop is well within his right to do what he did. The commish doesn't call plays, can't dictate how many times the ball goes into the post and has apologized for past scheduling discretions in the past. Think to the 08 WCF game 1. The Spurs just beat New Orleans in a game 7 of a hotly contested series.
That night, their plane was stuck on the tarmac and the entire team was forced to sleep on the plane.

Where was Stern to help with scheduling then?
I know it happened but I can't find a link about it. A few season ago, Pop went BAMA about the fact that his team got screwed by first having to play a critical playoff game late night to be followed up by another critical game early the 2 days later, so that way the marquee teams, who had been resting, could get the primo early evening time slot.

Afterwards, Stern told both Pop and the fans that while they value their partnerships with TV, the league should be looking out for it's team regardless.

I'm sure there's a link out there about it somewhere.

HOW SOON HE FORGETS! F'in LOSER.
    Found it!!!

NBA commissioner David Stern acknowledged that it was a mistake to schedule the San Antonio Spurs to open the Western Conference semifinals with an early game Sunday.

"If we had it to do over again, we wouldn't have acceded to the network's request on that one," Stern said on Monday night.

"We could lay it off on the network, but that's our responsibility, and we have the ability to say no. And we should have."

ABC representatives were not available for comment.

San Antonio wrapped up its first-round series in Sacramento so late Friday night that it was after midnight in Texas. The Spurs spent the night in Sacramento and didn't arrive back in San Antonio until about 3 p.m. Saturday.

They tipped off their series with Dallas at noon local time on Sunday because ABC wanted to show the Cleveland-Detroit game in the more attractive later time slot. The Cleveland-Detroit game got a rating of 3.7 -- 19 percent higher than a game in the same timeslot a year ago. ABC Sports' ratings are up 19 percent over a year ago.

Despite the short turnaround, San Antonio won the game 87-85.
F'You Dave...you still treat the Spurs like 2nd class.

Tim will have knee tendonitis while Manu will have back spasms.
When I originally heard the news (driving down south for some weekend hunting) my first thought was the NBA would soon find that "left patellar tendonitis" was both rampant and contagious.

Spurs were fined because they didn't notify the league until last minute. It was more of a FU from Pop which resulted in a FU from the league. Kerr let the league/media know he was resting players, which is not against league rules.

    That's wot the stance is.
