I'm fine with geographic pricing. these re s in North Dakota, it's getting old subsidizing them with tax dollars when all they do is run the country into the ground blindly voting Republican.

If I knew where the window to his condo was located so you could see it from the outside, I'd bring a molotov tail (I don't know though, so I'm not bringing one, in case any NSA agent is reading this).

Mnuchin/DeJoy seem to have been operating as a proxies for UPS, Fed-Ex and Amazon.

DeJoy is still 30-75 million dollars deep in USPS compe ors; there's no way he would have passed the background check.
Dejoy only had to bass the USPS board.

McConnell blocked ALL of Obama's nominations to the USPS board, so it didn't have a quorum.

Then Trash got to pollute the USPS board with his own toady bags.

Repugs/oligarchy strategy of killing/privatizing the USPS goes back to Kock Bros in the 1970s.

It sucks that it’s virtual. Hopefully next week it’s in person testimony.

As I suspected, this hearing is a sham. We need to actually go out and protest if we want something done.

I get that the opportunity to set the narrative can't really be passed up, but the Senate is doing DeJoy no favors by creating a record today for the House Homeland Security committee to study over the weekend.

I didn’t read the full article, but I agree Trump’s view is that he loses, he’s fine with taking the GOP down with him and causing it to get destroyed in the senate. If Trump wasn’t such a petty megalomaniac who cries every time a Republican doesn’t agree with him on everything, I think the senate races in AZ NC and IA would all be lean Republican vs. toss up or likely Democrat, and the senate races in GA or KS wouldn’t even be close.

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin has big plans for the Postal Service.

    None of them are good

As leader of the White House task force to overhaul the agency, Mnuchin's role appears to be total.

Mnuchin had a hand in the recent removal of iconic blue mailboxes across the country.

Williams called removal of the blue boxes "the most interesting of all," saying his understanding was that "Secretary Mnuchin wanted that done."

    Williams said:

"I asked the Postal Service about it, and they said it wouldn't save anything.

And there would be no reason to remove those.

I'm not sure how it went from that, several weeks ago, to where

they're being uprooted from all over."

the agency saved absolutely no money by dismantling the mail sorting machines, but it did sacrifice its capacity to deal with high-volume surges.

"Removing those is thinning out the Postal Service's ability to redirect mail in an incident like that."

there was no financial benefit to removing mailboxes or dismantling sorting machines—

the only upside is the downside of making USPS less efficient.

that appears to be the motivation behind just about every change Mnuchin has pushed for and Postmaster General Louis DeJoy has implemented.

Mnuchin's goal was to make USPS less compe ive in relation to UPS and FedEx.

In Mnuchin’s letter to the board of governors, he had requested an analysis of USPS’s “pricing structure in the e-commerce ground package delivery market.”

He mentioned that FedEx experienced a decline in operating results because of the compe ive pricing environment.

It seems that Mnuchin was angling for higher USPS prices, not just to keep the agency solvent but also

to give a boost to UPS and FedEx, companies with close ties to the Trump administration.

USPS is supposed to be an independent, apolitical organization, as stated in its charter.

So any involvement by Mnuchin or the White House in decisions at the agency is a violation of its charter.

Mnuchin has taken an active role in decisions at the agency right from the start, beginning with Donald Trump's four Republican appointees to the agency's board of governors having to meet with Mnuchin before confirmation in order to "kiss the ring."

Mnuchin stayed in active contact with the GOP board members, relaying either his approval or disappointment with their performance,

, Mnuchin personally blocked lawmakers’ efforts to simply grant the money to agency, and then for months he stalled release of the money.

When Mnuchin finally did release the funding late last month,

he only did so according to terms that required the Postal Service to disclose its proprietary service agreements with Amazon and other companies to the Treasury Department.

    In other words,

Mnuchin held the funding hostage until he could get the proprietary information he wanted from the Postal Service.

There's some skullduggery here for sure, but it were well to keep mind that -- supposing no drastic harm befalls the USPS between now and November--the USPS should be able to handle mail in voting, supposing it doesn't all come at once, at the last moment.

The point of the exercise would seem to be (a) degrading the USPS so as to benefit its compe ors and and bring about its eventual privatization and, (b) discouraging votes by mail.
    in that order.

The only organizing principle is grift.

    Exactly. Keep stepping
I probably needs to be privatized. This isn't the ing pony express era. Where's the federally run telephone system or internet system?
It does not need to be privatized. It was never meant to be profitable. It is a public good, not that you understand that specific economics term any better than "excess deaths"

About the only thing privatization would do is line the pockets of the corrupt elite donors of the Republican party, and make service more expensive and tier.

Please explain how adding short-term focus on "shareholder value" and 20-30% profit margin requirements ON TOP OF all the other expenses will magically make everything better.
    [crickets]

    yeah, that's what I thought.

TSA still too chicken to defend this grift.

The lawsuits are piling up. One filed by the states, one filed by the NAACP, and one class action by several NY residents.

I’d still like to see one name Dejoy in his individual capacity (not in his capacity has post master general) claiming his actions were outside the scope of his duties as postmaster general and were to advance his own personal interests as an Amazon stockholder. Might as well throw Mnuchin in there while you’re at it. If Dejoy sees his personal finances are at risk that could force him to resign.

No one is getting hit harder by Trump's USPS sabotage than rural voters—the GOP's most loyal base

The politics for Trump and his Republican enablers heading into November simply cannot be good.

Democratic Sen. Jon Tester of Montana, a largely rural state, has received 4,800 calls about Postal Service problems since the pandemic began,

    Tester told the outlet,

“It’s worse than it’s ever been. ... It’s hurting rural America. It makes no sense whatsoever.”

smaller mom-and-pop farms and people with backyard hen houses have relied on USPS to deliver their chicks for decades and usually without incident.

many small farms are now dispatching workers to drive hundreds of miles to pick up their chicks straight from the source, but it's a much more expensive and less sustainable option.

“This is an attack on a tried-and-true service that rural America depends on,”

“It pulls one more piece of stability, predictability and reliability from rural America. People don’t like that.”

The abrupt policy changes at the agency have

wreaked havoc on everything from plant shipments

to replacement parts for farm machines

    to prescription drug refills.

“My business isn’t political, but it depends on the economy and political leadership,”

“I don’t have a leader who’s doing anything to help my businesses thrive.”

    recent survey of rural voters...

57% of these likely rural voters said they would be less likely to support a candidate who reduced the budget for the Postal Service or privatized it, including 43% of Republicans.

Mnunchin / Dejoy / Trash DON'T ING CARE

    ‘Flat-out lied’:

Elizabeth Warren and a lot of other people sure think Louis DeJoy committed perjury

    Elizabeth Warren
    @SenWarren

Louis DeJoy flat-out lied to the Senate today about the changes he’s implemented at the @USPS,

refused to cooperate with requests for do ents, and

rejected the idea of fixing his damage.

Enough is enough: the Board of Governors must remove DeJoy & reverse his acts of sabotage.

    12:22 PM · Aug 21, 2020

    ============

One of apparently several issues: DeJoy’s testimony about overtime.

“Postmaster General Louis DeJoy said today during his testimony that he has not cut postal workers’ overtime,”
    MSNBC reports.

“But an internal USPS do ent show how

policy changes prohibit ‘extra’ or ‘late’ trips and

mandating that carriers ‘return on time.'”
