Game Thread: Spurs vs. Houston 10/28/2024, really this time.

We missed some very makeable 3's. I'm actually proud of the boys ... in the 2nd half. They didn't give up but digging yourself out of a 17 point whole with our shooting is nigh impossible.

First half was a show.

The problem is, this team is full of poor shooters. I like that they're playing hard, but if they can't shoot, won't likely win many of these games. Jeremy Sochan has been the Spurs' most consistent player on offense this season, but a lot of it is coming through sheer effort plays.

yeah this team does not have enough shooting ... Wemby is showing solid passing skills but guys like Keldon are below average in converting the threes.

Castle was horrible in the first half, but he got better. But he also can't shoot ... really need Vassell back!

Yeah, I agree, but, I also don't think he should have been out there at the end in the first place. If he can't hit a shot, he doesn't bring much else. I know Castle's shooting doesn't look good right now, but at least he brings a lot of other stuff, so I would have had him out there instead of Keldon at the end of the game.

and thats fine tbh. guys who can shoot, play defend, and create shots for themselves and others are usually called all-stars

when devin returns, if we stagger the minutes such that at least one of vassell/champagnie are on the floor at all times, should help with spacing

He's gotta let go of the KDurant dream. He's so long that I find it hard to believe he will ever be smooth like that or be able to run around other players even if his ballhandling evolves significantly. It's worrying because he doesn't seem that jazzed about not being a guard.

Of course, none of this matters if he becomes a deadeye shooter, cause no one is blocking or bothering that otherwise.

Wemby has always seemed to be a streaky shooter. Good season/bad season shooting type. Kind of like Danny Green used to be hot and cold.

I think it'd be easier for him to give up that Durant dream if he had perimeter players next to him. His teammates are just so bad at making teams respect the 3 pt line and constantly clog the paint for help defense. His own teammates push him out as much as the other team. Definitely not a fan of the makeup of the squad currently. You need shooters in the NBA. Wemby desperately needs shooters.

Which is why I was absolutely fine with Hero Ball Trae coming in. Even if he shot average, he would alleviate so much space and attention for Wemby. Wemby needs that and a stretch 4. Love Sochan, but not his fit when he takes wembys spot downlow.
