That sort of explains why you see guys wait until just after the buzzer to launch those. There are probably a lot of guys who have had money taken out of their pockets negotiating for a free agent deal because of that.
I know the Mavs number one offseason priority is Tyson Chandler. Next would be Caron Butler, who has already made strong overtures about his intention on remaining with the Mavs.
If the add Brewer today, it's highly doubtful that they'll be able to afford to resign him over the summer. This should get real juicy.

I don't get how the Spurs have a logjam? The only true 3 the Spurs have is RJ, so signing Brewer would give you the backup SF the Spurs desperately need. Manu/Neal/Hill/Anderson aren't legit options at the 3.
I keep forgetting about Marion. Dude had Manu on clamps during last years playoffs![]()
Good point, but you'd have to think the chance to be in the starting lineup may equal his want to close out games. That and matchups may dictate that decision.
I couldn't agree more, but there has been some speculation in this thread about the potential for a logjam at the 2/3 spot - even if Brewer doesn't sign.
but they have been legit enough to go 49-10 so far. Brewer isn't going to just come in here and start logging 25+ minutes a game as the backup 3 when our other guys (though not the most ideal options) have helped lead this team to the best franchise start in history.
True. And one thing we know is that Carlisle isn't married to any particular lineup. He allows matchups to dictate that. His only mantra to his guys is "role versatility". He implores them to "stay ready"
I doubt Marion loses many minutes, if any at all. Peja likely loses some, and Stevenson will lose all of his. Brewer will probably get about 15-20 minutes, tops on the Mavs, but likely would be in a starting role. And this way, if Marion gets into foul trouble, they always will have another athletic wing defender to throw out there, because if Marion is in foul trouble, then they have none (unless you count Stevenson, but he is kinda short)
Not for you, maybe.
Marion isn't losing any minutes, Peja would lose most.
Not to mention Cuban is already paying the luxury tax. Would Cuban want to take on more salary?
Celtics dipping their huge balls into this hot tub. If he's wanting to be showcased, being buried behind Jeff Green in Boston isn't going to help.
Having a true defensive 3 is something the Spurs have needed since Bruce hung them up, do you honestly think that Ginobili/Hill/Neal/Anderson are viable backups on a contending team?
Especially with Tony out for the next few weeks, meaning Manu and Hill will have to play more of a PG role.
He's long said he doesn't mind so long as it's the right player and fit. Do the Spurs want to, either?
Spurs wouldn't be in the luxury tax I don't think.
The Bulls would be a very good fit
I'm not really sure tbh, they have helped lead us to a 49-10 record though. It creates a problem (in some peoples eyes) because in the playoffs teams traditionally cut down to an 8 man rotation with maybe a 9th getting spot minutes. Having Tony,Hill,Manu,Neal,Brewer and RJ at those positions is more than likely going to cut one of the guys way down in minutes once the playoffs roll around.
Deng plays 39 mpg.
Do you think Corey Brewer is so much better than all of these players combined in the minutes they would play at the 3? I really haven't scouted the Timberwolves the past three years as extensively as the rest of you apparently have. I'm fine with picking him up, but I'm not prepared to call it a season if they don't.
I'm thinking at the 2 obviously, the Bulls need for one
Spurs can actually sign up to 3 players without going into lux tax territory, but cannot match the amount that Cuban can offer although they wouldn't be that much below.
It comes down to which contending team he thinks would be the best fit for him.
With the history of Bowen playing and starting here, I can't help but think that if he is smart, he will choose the Spurs.
They're looking for a scoring 2, they already have the other Brewer.
I thought the Bulls were getting Butler?
Echo this for me on the Mavs-end of things.
